I always forgot to ask this question..
It was quite a while back.. I was at SAFTI Officers Mess.. I saw this big mural/photograph of this fighter plane (F15?). Normally, on military planes, there wil be the pilot's name/callsign at the side of the cockpit right? But on that picture, there was a 3SG Samuel Tan and 3SG Jason Lim. The two of them waving to the camera. Both had their flight suits and nametag. It was weird to see such a thing. Is there really such a thing? U can see for urself at the officers mess. The picture was around circa 1980s. -

could be the ground crew on a joyride.

sounds like trainee.
if it's a mural (painted), scully it's the trainee themselves trying to be funny, and the warrant just bo chap let them have a bit of 'glory'. haha. -
there are no 3SG trainees for pilots.
if they are trainees, what vocation are they trainees for? -

It's not a painting.. it's a photograph set in the 80s.. If i ever go back there, i promise to take a picture.. The photo is really poignant... Airplane...2 3SG names.. pilots who look barely 18..

Got an impression of some airforce, not sure RSAF or USAF , had the names of the crew chief for that particular plane painted on one side of the cockpit, while the name of the pilot on the other side.

yah.... starboard side usually the DCC/DSS name.... port side the pilot's name.
but in the 1980s.. the 3SG rank doesn't exist. so i think this picture is later than that.
plus DCC/DSS i thought usually SSG MSG level one? how come this 3SG? -
Haha! Maybe the pilot officer cadet drop out at pro-term?

cos i'm 1 of those whose application were approved halfway thru ASLC
but was told i had to finish ASLC.
thus, i passed out as 3SG b4 going over to air force school.
i can still rem i reported in smart 4 wif beret n my 3SG rank...
then got a warrant officer told me dun wear beret...
super pai seh... cos nobody wear beret in air force school.
then i was told to take off my 3SG rank n put on the OCT rank immediately. -
Wah, that feeling must be so sad... pluck out ur hard earned chevrons... so u became a pilot after that?
