looking back on hingsight, i'd much rather get a job immediately after completing my studies than spend 2 years in the military. let's not talk about skills atrophying or anything, it's more about the urge to want to do something.
also, hopfully if eventually more and more boys choose to go NS with only an Os cert, the system might hopefully come to realise that leaders are chosen from those with leadership qualities, not those who know how to mug.
A drive is not a compulsory enlistment for those students who finish their O levels. Don't worry about itOriginally posted by Coquitlam:Wah, crazy or what, enlist after Os...
Don't want to suddenly have an influx of immigrants from Singapore in my new country just because their parents want them to avoid NS...
It's not a fair comparison. Comparing their size of the population and Singapore's . Look , we are not the only country that has compulsory NS and I feel this is good for boys that will become man. I do agree that SAF is screwed up after going through it for 2 years but NS is not a waste of time , we learn , make friends , go through thick and thin with our fellow mates.Originally posted by SMAPLionHeart:anyway , americans , japanese have not served NS , that means they are not matured?![]()

ns is a joke
NS is a joke , but i didn't say defending the nation was a jokeOriginally posted by K800i:It's not a fair comparison. Comparing their size of the population and Singapore's . Think again if you think NS is a joke. If there is a war involving Singapore , who is going to defend the island ? Mind you , we are living on an island unlike Japan or US.
Just my 2 cents.

Amen to that and slightly off topic ( to Gordon) . I like Ayumi too , her new singles Born to be/Startin are superb songs.Originally posted by Gordonator:16, 17 years old are too young to face the harsh taraining (depending on your unit). and their mindset, can they take the regimentation, tekan-ing, chao-keng, eye-power, talked-down to, arrowed at etc or not?
i say at least give them 2 more years till they are 18, 19 when they are more mature.
