PS course for NSF

I'm an NSF in his 2nd year, but yup recently been informed that i've been selected for the coming Platoon Sergeant (PS) course.
It supposedly consists of a common phase(2 weeks) and an ops phase (2 weeks).
However, I have a few queries:- I am in support arms, but I've heard that the common phase is being held in ASTW. Is this true? So we all have to go to Pasir Laba camp even if we are not from infantry,gds or cdo?
- If so, what do we learn in the common phase? Is there a lot of chiong sua or just more of leadership talk etc.? Need to prepare SBO/chiong sua equipment again?
- Lastly,do we get our 2SG rank immediately after the course, if at all?
Can anyone who has attended the course before please help to shed light on this?

yes, support arms go for common phase in astw for 2 weeks. in common phase you'll have a day of tbtl, which is team building team learning, and how to conduct it etc.. and you'll learn alot of leadership stuff, and also about ammo control, about informal punishment, blablabla. No OPS. I think its weird that you know that you are going for common phase but yet don't know that sbo/ chiong sua equipment is not needed. they do give out store list when you go for briefing..
And NO you do not get your 2SG rank after the course. I've got 1SGs in my course who attended even the ops phase. then what? promote them to SSG? not really applicable yeah? besides, you're only attending 2weeks of common phase and want to get 2SG?
rumor has it that you get the 2SG rank after you have served as a 3SG for a year, and has attended PS course. -

from wat i noe, for a typical NSF
to get to 2SG wif 2SG pay will be:
1) u have to finish PS course wif ops phase
2) u must hold PS appointment
3) u must hold 3SG rank for at least a year
for me i haven fulfill the 3SG for a year criteria yet...
for regulars,
as long as ur time is ripe, u will get ur 2SG rank. -

i passed out as 3SG in May 2005,
went for PS course in Dec 2005,
ORD Sept 2006. -
think you will have at least 6 months to "enjoy" your rank on your no.4 before you ORD. (i.e. if in INF/GDS, for my time, you will get to at least go overseas with you men, as a PS with a PS rank).
Opps..to add in, my time refering to you having 2yrs 6 months!

Will you be getting 2SG pay? If not then not worth it lor!
Most of the time i seen is Local2SG but getting 3SG pay and yet doing more work than regulars! -

for me i'm quite heng,
yes i will be getting 2SG allowance cos my rank is not local rank
but in my unit got lots of local rank 2SG,
really sian man, do 2SG sai kang, get 3SG pay... -
ya i went for the OPS phase..i'm frm 1GDS..

Well when i was a NSF i also wen PScoz. But whether you promote to 2SGT or not depends on your CO. He has to recommend that u be promoted. PScoz does not mean u become 2nd SGT. For me i was promoted locally a month become i went PScoz, i have no idea why, then after PScoz i started drawing 2nd SGT pay. -

but PS appointment is not nessessary. As long your CO recommends u fro promotion u get. BUT most of the times only PS get 2nd SGT so it seems that way.
