  All I know from my knowledge is that STAR team is capable of handlings all types of hostage situation. FYI, they are also heli-capable and marine assault capable.
  
  In the past, way before STAR was formed, of cos the commandos were the organisation in charge.

  actually u r half correct laaa..... if its a diplomacy trouble... example... a hijacker hijack a plane and demand a certain leader of a terrorist group to be release laa.....fly the plane to europe laa...tat kind of thing..then... SOF will come in....

  I think its more like, if a foreign state/national is likely to be involved, one way or another, SOF will be involved.

  Sorie off topic, jzu wanna knoe...I wen to STAR website, In their recruitment Video, they got show diving. Means STAR got train under NDU also ah? R they required to go thru airborne training? wah liow their hell week is 12days, actual trg 6mths (same as commando current batch also rite cos last time is 10mths if i not mistaken)....den summore they hv No.4 lookin uniform in the video wif jungle hat...kindda confusing over watz their actual role?

  Can go see what is their jobscope under the website lo. They are trained in diving as well as marine assualt. They are heli=capable but not airborne as far as i know. They are also capable of ship boarding.

  Heard that one of their consultant was former SAS...heard from a SOC guy who went for the selection but did not make it thru.....but that was years ago....
