Anyone can give a gd description of the schedule of a 24 hurs guard comm?
Like mornin sign this sign that sign wat ??
guard mounting wat time break fast wat time. all those tings. 12 to 4 am rest time 4 to 6 do gate ?? -
Sign wrongly or 4got to sign smthing will kena extra? doze off during Guard Comm dute kena caught take extra?

issue arms, ammo every 2 hours, look after desk, look out for DO and close all the books at 2359. just some of the important things.

Before I did my 1st BOS duty during my NSF time many yrs back, I was made to understudy a friend o BOS duty.
I though GC duty should have understudy too ? -

I'd advise you to approach the Guard Comd when you are free or RSM during your Induction Programme. -

Hand over take over.
make sure those things you need to take over are all there and in good condition.
either BOS or DO will come to verify.
then you run the day.
next day hand over.
And since when 12am to 4am is REST???? -

I always took the 12-4am watch so that my guards can rest. -
remember to that ensure your guards eat enough, sleep enough instead of staying up in the wee hours watching late night TVs.

Give you one good tip.....
YOU BETTER find out from your CSM or BOS how the Ration Indent is like.
Some practice a permanent indent for Guard Personnel.
Some practice guard personnel will draw from their own companies.
Also find out if your guards got any special requirements for his ration.... e.g. Vegetarian Chinese, Vegeterian Indian, Kosher, Low-fat, soft-diet,
Also find out Night snack practice... if night snack is delivered or self collect. -
yes. its hard being a guard com. alot of responsibilities. to ensure your guards are well versed with the SOP, ROE etc etc.. changing shifts, taking care of arms, ensuring ration is collected and properly indented, know what to do in event of guard turn out.. be "bullied" by the Duty Officer or duty specialist.. etc etc...

most important thing is that u takeover/handover properly all the stuffs. please physicallly count and make sure the equipments are correct and are in working condition. if not please sound out to the guardhouse RSM or DO.
not sure about the practices of other camps, but i find that some guardcoms/2ICs are not serious when it comes to taking over/handing over. sometimes they just sign on the handover list without even checking.
you never know, if the DO is garang, he will sure ask lots of things, like how this equipment works, how come this flashlight not working etc. -

Parade is not DO right. it is the DOO.
CDSO just have to be on the island. he doesn't really have to do anything.
IDSM depends lah. you get nasty one, he give you lots of trouble one. You get relax one... he use his rover drive in and go fishing. -
also equally important for guardcoms. know your drills well, basic foot drills/rifle drills and turn out drills.
make sure before staff parade, fall in the guards outside and practise the basic drills like 'ru sok san jia ta", "du rong san jia ta" etc. make sure the drills are executed correctly, neatly and sharply.
DO see liao feel shiok, might reduces the chances of giving turn-outs. -
Let me give you some tips:
1st and foremost (haha - you will get the joke if you are from 1 SIR), find out who the DO and the BOS and other appt holder is. If the DO is one of those daaamn switch off one, then can relax relax. Else, then do what some of the posters above say lor...learn all the drills, etc.
2nd most important thing. One which you must never forget is to bring TV to guard room. Otherwise very sian one and as you know, idle soldiers like to get into trouble.
Then, and this is also very important...get someone who is going on a night's off to Ta Pao food back. Your guards eat SFI food will be very low morale. And low morale is no good because low morale soldiers like to try alot nonsense.
Lastly, remember that Cpls can do Guard com also. So if you have CPLs in your guard contingent, there is no reason why they should be able to rest for hours just because they have gone for a walk round the camp! Make him share the desk duty with you and the Guard 2IC and 3IC, etc! These CPLs are the 'high flyers' among the men - so you, as an NCO, ought to encourage their personal development. Making them do Guard Com duty will help them develop their leadership and man-management skills!

Another piece of unofficial advice, it does no harm to order pizza or fast food for your guards, it will improve their morale.

Why cannot make them do guard comd? ...say sleeping time is from 8pm - 8am. If you have 3 persons (GC. G2IC, Poor CPL) to share desk duty that means each one only has to do 4 hrs of duty! (except for the cpl who has to go prowling a couple of times - But Rank comes with responsiblity and priviledge!) 8 - 12, 12 - 4, 4 - 8!. Now just imagine the situation if all your guards are CPLs!! WAhahahaha!
I know not very orthodox, but that is why i suggested an excuse that he could use...and the disclamer. -
ever see before guardsman, commandos and divers do guard duty at the same time?
