my helmet was the old velcro version and i enlisted in 2001 ..so i think me and fudgster is 2.25 cause my time still no Gortex boots till towards mid 2002...

The Goretex boots and new helmet with plastic chin buckles were only introduced just as I was about to POP from BMTC. After that, I spent time in both Ulu Pandan and Bedok camps... which were both super-old camps with antiquated settings.
So... that makes me 2.25G, rite? -

i think i was in the midst of the transformation to the 3G army, however we didn't get to play much of the new toys otherthan the free com comms set and the american made GEN3 NVGs during my closing army days...
not to mention the old blue new balance track shoes
my unit also trailed the new cupboard box meals packed in the green insulator bags -

Me , like some of the people who replied to this thread, had a mixture of equipment from 1G to 2.5 G. Because my NS and reservist spanned 2 decades ... 1982 to 1995. I still have my formation badges and pins from the Temasek green days. I still have my boots ( one pair) from 1982 ... still in reasonable condition , despite many years of service.
Up till recently, I still had the first generation of camo no. 4 uniform from 1984, when the SAF were switching over from Temasek green. My parents were clearing my things in Singapore recently, and they reported that the uniform finally "gave way". The material was rotting and it was easy to tear it... so they recommended that I should scrap them. For those out there, if you remember the first camo version, it was distinguished by the fact that it was not sweat absorbent. You sweat and the shirt did not take up the liquid. Your sweat from your body ran into your under pants. After about 3 washes, the camou faded into a purplish white colour. It was probably very suitable for urban warfare camouflage ! -

still remember I used to tear the corner off the styrofoam boxes when i had no utensils outfield...then kenna scolding frm my PS.... -
