Serving in the army is something almost every singaporean male has to go through, and the training is, although toned down by many degrees to appease our small island community after many unfortunate military related events, is still demanding upon the recruits physically and mentally.
But i believe that there is another hazard in National Service. The social environment.
As a pre-enlistee, i have heard of cases where recruits, NSFs and regulars who fail to adapt wisely to their surroundings, and ending up either performing push-ups, staying back in the detention barracks on the weekends, being discriminated against and labelled the black sheep of the platoon...... etc.....
So, what social guidelines can we follow to prevent ourselves from having suffer the consequences of irresponsible behavior in the army ?
I only know of a few advices: Don't be an "Indian Chief", Do whatever you want to do, but don't get caught, Don't trust anybody, Don't volunteer for guard duty and don't be enthusiastic about it..........
My purpose for this thread is to collect many guidelines to form a library of prudent rules for those people serving in the army, who are going to serve their national service and hopefully do a huge favor for those soon going into the army or are in the army to lower the frequency of kenna screwed or punished. as a pre-enlistee, you shouldnt be bothering about such insignifcant matters. just be yourself and it'll do. if your character and attitude is bad, no amount of concealment will help. besides, you cant change overnight away.

BMT style is simple, they make ppl work as a team. So even if u manage to compile such a list or do everything by it. U will still kena just by one person in ur platoon not doing it. Example, PS ask the platoon to fall-in then u want to avoid trouble, fall in early liao then ur platoon mate eng eng cheng cheng lagi walk down somemore, then whole platoon knock it down and wait it push up position for him.
So why bother.
Besides, if everyone follow such a list then no one to blanket-party liao.

Let's put it this way:
Just be yourself. If people like you, good for you. If people hate you, then ask yourself why they hate you.
Just do your tasks as well as you can, and don't worry so much. Things will never be as bad as they seem. It's perfectly ok to screw up every now and then and get your platoon into pumping position. Everyone makes mistakes.
Of course, if your platoon gets into pumping position every single day because of you, then something's really wrong. -

Just Follow the crowd,People do 4 pull ups,u can do 6 just do 4.When heard about offs etc,keep quiet dun ask anyone. Conclusion is,just follow orders,dun act smart,try not to be too friendly or too hostile to your instructors can liao.
But when IPPT comes,try to pass,it will be gd for you so as to skip RT,but durning training(not test) just use the golden rule,follow the crowd. -

I don't understand what on earth that whole stupid blanket party culture is about. Like as if all the "smarter" guys who can't be arsed to do anything with their lives are trying hard to establish the same sort of behaviour throughout their social circle, just so they can appear normal when they're fcuking useless and lazy.
Seriously, if i got blanket partied for no good reason, i'd just shoot them.
If everyone is so judgemental about those who volunteer, do you think your country or society will ever have a leader? I do agree that there will be some big time ballslickers out there, but not everyone who volunteers is a bad cock. Don't be so fcuking stupid. -
If u are person who is naturally considerate for others, it doesn't matter if u are a damn on and garang leader, or a slacker. Impt thing is that u know u are not a one man army. U shud remain quite popular.

absolutely. not everyone who volunteers are detestable.
while i was in OCS, whenever our platoon was asked to cough out volunteers, no one will respond. sometimes, this gets everyone (esp the appointment holders) into trouble. but somehow people still refuse to volunteer - free time mah, of cos rest and do own things more impt lah.
so in the end, its always me and a few other frens who volunteer. and needless to say, these are also the frens whom i am still close wif after passing out. -
I heard that in the army just follow the crowd and dont get promoted as it add to yah reservist years. Dunno if its true or not.

How much effort you put in is more often than not directly proportionate to the fruits of your labour. I feel most Singaporeans are just too apathetic and indifferent about everything.

Reservist cycle is up till 40, no matter if you are PTE or 3SG.
At least get the 3SG and have a bit more money for the time they call you back. -
