we are talking about a SAW not an assault rifle.... btw, y do u say that it is a great gun?Originally posted by acwire_2125:Haaha! If the army wants a 7.62 gun, look for HK417! It is a great gun!
Maybe the figured that sustained firing from a bullpup weapon just doesn't look garang?Originally posted by tankee1981:What ever happened to the LMG version of the SAR-21? I guess rapid change of 30 rd mags won't be very rapid with the mag at the back as compared to the Ultimax
SAR-21 Light Machine Gun (LMG)
Fitted with an open bolt. It has a heavy 508mm barrel with an integral folding bipod
have you ? ....Originally posted by acwire_2125:HK417 is a good gun cause the firing pin will not get hot even after firing 100 rounds. The chamber all will also not get dirty and clog with all the gun powder and all. You guys should try your hands on that gun. Another gun with same concept but using a 5.56 bullet is the HK416.
wow... true, their short-stroke gas piston system does not leave any residue even after prolong firing... u fired it b4? i have not so i can't say that the rifle is good or not.Originally posted by acwire_2125:HK417 is a good gun cause the firing pin will not get hot even after firing 100 rounds. wow! ur friend must be quite $$ and lucky... cos i last read at some military forums, that the 416/417 is not avaliable for civis to use... cos of some import policy... it's like them owning a SAR 21! cool!Originally posted by acwire_2125:Never lah! But I have a friend in US who own the gun. He said the gun damn good! And the gun is like buy from black market one. H&K want to buy back from this people at 3 times the market price he also dun want to sell.
So your comparison with Ultimax 100?Originally posted by equlus84:Personally, I have the privilege of watching the "Ultimax100 vs Minimi LMG" in life actions in field exercise
Our battalion was selected to participate in this 3d2n ex with the Royal Thai Army airborne regiment. They are using the Minimi LMG and their section has 11 men plus sec com. Their platoon has abt 50men, their coy has onli 2 rifle platoon plus HQ platoon. Each section has 2 m203 soldier, 1 minimi LMG gunner. Their light anti tank asset is grouped as an independent section in the platoon, with abt 3 pcs of 66mm LAW, ammo guys, and a sec comm. Their PS role is actually known as the assistant platoon leader and is a 2nd LT.
I notice that our SAW and their LMG each have their own boons and banes on the actual ground.
FIBUA:
The Minimi from wad I see, faired quite poorly firstly, the thai chaps could not deploy in those buildings, for example fire out of windows, without proper sandbags to support the weapons. Their LMG guy practically did not get involve in scanning and capturing of rooms. The Minimi being slightly heavier seems to bear some effect on the thai chaps especially when there is a bandolier filled with blanks hanging beneath.
FIELD:
The minimi faired better, it seems to give the thais more aggressive fire power, especially pinning down the opponents in their shell scrapes. But this may also lead to the section to rely on the flanking technics instead of like for example the section advancing together.
Both SAWs are useful in different roles, and fit different infantry doctrines.Originally posted by dork3d:So your comparison with Ultimax 100?
Not really ultimax does out perform M249 interm of range and handling. A Saw is not really mean to be properly stabilise and lay down auto fire, that a machine gun job , if you need, bring a GPMG . The ultimax does what is really require of the Saw better then M249, it allow the handler to do fire and movement with it easiler. Which it is best used for short 3-5 round burst, also with ultimax the advantage is user can easily fire on the move and still can hit the target thanks to the low recoil, light weight and easy handling.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Both SAWs are useful in different roles, and fit different infantry doctrines.
The MOUT operations today demand a greater on-foot firepower rather than too much of the static suppressing fire concept within the section or fire team, that's what I gather so far.
The Minimi aka M249 is better off in open areas where the gunner can stabilise it.
