VEES: Voluntary Early Enlistment for NS

I'm going to turn 18 this year on 11 dec (rmb to give me present)
I'm currently schooless!! after withdrawing from my course (lack of interest) i intend to apply for another course at poly again but i've missed application date. In order not to waste one whole year of my youth, i intend to request for early enlistment into NS (Most probably sept 06) since i have to do it sooner or later. So..
1) According to my birthdate, which intake will i be in?
2) I know i can reserve a place in poly, but can i apply for poly (Direct admission) during my NS? Must i seek any authorisation from my officers or whoever is the IC.
3) Any cons for enlisting early?? I just want to finish it and get the hell out so i can do my diploma then degree without disruption. Hoping to get a gold or silver to deduct 2 months off.
Btw, if i do get in i'm worried i might be at a disadvantage due to my age. Later kanna bully or watever. Anyone here enlisted early before?
Any suggestions or advise would really be appreciated since i've decided to go in earlier by this year. -

I'm trying very hard to look at it from a positive kind of view.
I now understand why those old birds always say NS is a waste of time! Haha

In fact, I do encourage ppl to do NS first then study as oppose to the other way around. This allow ppl to apply the learned skills after they graduate (poly) or allow a continous flow in their education (JC).
Because if u study first then NS, u will most likely end up in my kind of situation: After NS, mind rusty and watever leaned in poly has become totally out-dated and irrelevant (I'm in IT line).

I agree with you on the continous enducation flow, esp poly. Hey! I was intending to do some IT related courses in poly when im done with NS. I got posted to crap course in poly so no interest. Go in early come out early, then can do whatever you want.

i am the youngest in my unit now. i am 17 going to 18 this Oct. for me the ppl in my unit are all 1985 born and above. only 1 of them is 1987. and bully is jus joking, teasing u all that only. btw u have to print your the early enlistment form. i give u a view of how fast i enlisted. Mid Nov 2005 - send the form. End Nov 2005 - checkup at CMPB. 24 Feb 2006 - receive enlistment letter. 28 Feb 2006 - go CMPB with parent to sign the form that they agree i can serve NS under the age of 18 and discuss the options i have if i dun wan to serve half way b4 my 18th bday. End march 2006 - enlisted and exchange pink ic for 11b.
anyway, the options u have if u suddenly decided to backout is to call up CMPB i tink or your Chief Commandant -

cons when u ord, your frens all final yr at poly liao, but haven serve NS.
if u wan to enlist early rite, send the form asap lol. btw the intake dun depends on your bday if u early enlistment. depends on whether got slot for u to enlist anot.. -
Thanks twist for the info. I'll try to make it into the june or september batch. Since i want to clear my NS first then redo my poly course.

Donchoo, I myself enlisted early under the VEES Voluntary Early Enlistment Scheme and therefore was an early enlistee myself, I would like to share some things with you.
The reason why I enlisted early was because I did not do JC or Poly in Singapore, I did a one year Matriculation Pre University course in Sydney Australia. And after that came back to Singapore to enlist and it had to be under the VEES cos I was still just a 17 year old kid!
I discern a few areas of concern here. One is probably if one at such a young and tender age will be able to take the rigours of army training and life or not. Well, if I could survive so can you! I definitely DO NOT say that army life will be a bed of roses and piece of cake but that even at a younger age, if one puts in the effort and trains, one can take the training.
Another area is the maturity of the brain. I definitely acknowledge that someone at around 22-23 years of age has an advantage in being more mature to be able to survive in the army compared to a 17 year old kid, However if one is willing to learn the ropes of the military life fast and be willing to adapt fast to the environment and the army way of life, then one can also survive well in the environment and be as savvy as one who is older.
Remember, no matter what your ages are, you might be the younger one, BUT all of you are fresh recruits. Your rank is the same, you are a recruit, they are a recruit, they have NO RIGHT to push you around and order you around, your corporals and sergeants and officers are the ones who are your superiors NOT your fellow recruits.
Unfortunately there might be some recruits who try to act the big boss, do not give them face cos they have no right to do so. This is all based on personal experience.
Well, so much for the downsides and how to overcome them, I shall move on to the advantages, for one thing the younger you go in the younger you ORD and leave the army and the younger you can move on to your next stage of life. I ORDed when I was just 19! When so many others at that age have not even enlisted yet!
One last thing, about the talk on being able to get an easier vocation for those who early enlist I am not sure and never really heard of such a thing. There is no guarantee about it and if anyone else can verify such a policy please do tell.

Just like to add, being an early enlistee does not mean anything significantly different or hardly anything different in terms of training/treatment from those who enlist upon being 18 or above who have done JC/Poly. One will be treated the same as the other recruits.
So life as an early enlistee will not be anything really different from the others and my best guess it will not be anything worse than the other enlistees.
I again state that I am not sure about that statement about early enlistees being given easier vocations after BMT and if anyone can verify it please do state here. -

depend when they wan u 2 go in... n u can apply watever thn u wan when u r inside... personally i did tt.... n there's no con in goin in early.. expect u can ORD early den ur friends lor... dun worry... u wun get bully 1 la unless u veri guai lan n selfish... den ppl will mark u.... -
anyway i have tell u my "how fast i enlisted the stuff". yours shld be faster than mine cos i PES E due to medical reasons. and PES E intake is quite less compared to the other PES intake. so your intake might be faster than mine threadstarter...

Ok, i called eMindef and they told me i was not due for NS until somewhere next year march.
When i asked about early enlistement they told me might as well wait until my letter come in early may then go for medical check up and state for earliest intake possible (Sept or Dec), then write a email to cmpb or something like that.

Actually thats what i asked for, but since my letter coming just next month early may, might as well wait?? But then again i would prefer to enlist asap, so i guess i'll take the form down to CMPB or email them.
Arggg. gotta start training on my 2.4km, i should be pes A or B but nafa always just pass get bronze. -
i tink if u wait for their letter, den i tink you will enlist after your 18th bday. cos i am provided with the options of backing out and serve again for 2 yrs after my 18th bday. this is wat they tell me. if back out means u restart.
and i tink SAF dun recognise bronze for nafa test. -
Since the minimum age requirement to join SPF is 18, does that mean that people who opt for early enlistment will not get posted to SPF/SCDF?
Anyone seen any NS Policemen under 18 before?
