you'll have to go down for an audition. do ask your unit's manpower department.

request for audition, Manpower officer or S1 can arrange this for you. But sometimes unwilling to do if you are of greater importance to the current unit.
if you have experience in playing an instrument that band plays, just enter this when you register for NS. You will have a very high chance of getting the audition.
however, please take note that you will lessen your chance to OCS and SISPEC (if you are interetsted)
try not to believe whatever anybody tell you if your potential candidacy to OCS/SISPEC has priority over Band.
I got too many recruits who fell into this trap. -

So girls can join the MDC too?
i thought most girls who join SAF either join as DXO (or exec assistant) n do paperwork or army, airforce or navy? the MDC sounds quite interesting though

Intake depends on the overall SAF manpower needs. When the other units are sorely lacking then the band gets a few guys, say, maybe as little as 3 per batch. However when the band has a shortage they'll get as many as 30. So it all depends on batch to batch, also whether you're a musician-infested batch, whether you are poly or JC batch etc.Originally posted by woleile:hw do they choose ppl for the band, hw mani ppl get to enter everytime?
First of all get yourself selected for the audition about 2 weeks before your POP. if you entered your ECA as band during sch days chances are your name will be in the list. Just make sure your OC doesn't hide the list from you guys. Then, come for audition, play your best, and pray hard.
I say that because everything really lies with CPC (personnel control) after that, how many guys they want to post to band or OCS/SISPEC etc. -
girls can join MDC as performer... their contract is a DXO contract.

MDC came down to my unit once to perform for a unit's ROD celebration (yes it is ROD not ORD). Only the dancers came down only. Instead of enjoying the performance, most of us are guessing which one on stage is an ah gua.

their skits are always Total Defence Themed.

only negative thing about SAF band is that u have to climb that bloody hill to get to the location.
