RADM(NS) Lui Tuck Yew served in the RSN for 20 years, raising to the appointment of Chief of navy, will be one of PAP's new candidates running for the General Election 2006.

seriously... are all this scholars and retire COL really that good to deserve this???.... i must admit some are really good... but how many?? i'm personally working with an president scholar, retired COL and a retired captain now...
president scholar - fcuking smart quite ok too
retired COL - management skill scuks and only talk big due to his good contact with army ppl.. so good for networking only, working like a site supervisor now if look at his output
Retired Captain - even better than the retired COL, but same.. management skill scuks and know nothing about admin.. just know how to talk.

RADM(NS) Lui is a 2 stars general. that means he's the highest ranked in the whole party. even higher than Lee Hsien Long, George Yeo and Teo Chee Hean.

Live in HDB flat or not?.........probably not.......another rich guy trying to be part of the masses.......
will he speak out against casino?..........probably not, since he will obey party whip.....even if he betrays the teachings of his religion.....if any....... -

i noe not all safos or government scholars are top leaders. but i believe most of us do see them (real leaders) around. if he's not recognized by his peers, can he go all the way to chief of navy? btw, im from the navy. and he's a great man. a great leader and chief.
how many battles have singapore gone thru? you wan to see star-generals from battles? frankly, i don't. even without old-traditional battles... u think there are no other "real" battles going around? it's the age of terrorism now. (also, singapore did send troops for peace-keeping missions and stuffs. e.g. the not-so-recent iraq war aftermatch.)
he lived in rented HDB flat before. i don't know "now". but sometimes, it's not like he can choose to live in HDB... and i believe he has the guts to do the "right" thing, from his perspective.
i have much respect for him. so much so that i've been paying attention to where he's posted to after his chief-of-navy handover. he will also gain your respect, some day. im sure.

As an ex RSN personnel, I feel that RADM Lui is worthy of becoming a Minister. As a CNV, he was a people oriented leader with a common touch, humble yet funny. He is not like some senior commanders who gives people the aloof feeling. His sorrow over the courageous incident is real and not a political show. He was one of the most popular chief of navy, unlike some who stands out as a icicle. I feel that just because he is a scholar, many people feel that his achievement today is a result of his scholarship alone. Not all scholars are good but there are many who slog through to be successful and have to confront this prejudice and resentment among their peers who discount their success because of this branding. Anyway I wish RADM Lui all the best! Brillant, yet humble and compassionate, he deserves to be an MP and much more No, I am not a PAP crony, just stating facts mixed with my humble opinion -

If i recall, ex-CDF Lim Chuan Poh is the Permanent Secretary for Education, which means that his subordinate in the armed forces - CNV RADM Lui - is now his boss? -
