I think the 4 finger rule is something that someone long ago invented as a rule of thumb, but which has since come into a prominence that its inventor could never have envisaged. by the way, i consider myself thin and lanky too. and i have seen many thin and lanky servicemen. it only convinces me even more that between a properly done smart 4 vs one which extends all the way down to your elbow (esp if one does not have any chevrons), the former makes one look neater and tidier.
How about this? 3/4 down your upper arm.
Makes more sense than the 4 finger rule. At least this way, the fact that not everyone has arms of the same length is taken into account.

4 finger rule for folding smart 4 is the DUMBEST rule ever. I realised that after i went to unit... the no.4 is actually alot smarter when u fold it abt 6 fingers.

It looks exceptionally ridiculous when the sleeves are so short. That is not smart at all.

From my 1st time BMT he was Coy 2IC all the way to me returning from disruption to AHQ still No.4 very stylo. -
The system has been changed in BMTC. 4 fingers up from individual elbow is the measurement. Works well. Smart and comfortable. Thanks
