  Main reason is because it's free that's why people ask servicemen to buy for them. But they're really quite comfy and they aren't too ugly also.
  
  The current NB shoe has a good balance of cushioning and support, and a low arch for people who prefer it. Trained and ran a half marathon in it and had no problems at all.
  
  The Brooks model has stiffer cushioning and a higher arch. Also has a wider outsole, which i think gives more stability. Feels heavier than the NB model though.
  
  Soft cushioning + low arch + moderate stability = NB
  
  Stiff cushioning + high arch + high stability = Brooks

  IMO, i don't see any shame in wearing NB shoes in public.
  
  But as a few army songs dictates, when inside, wear New Balance, when outside, must wear NIKE shoes, that's the correct procedure.
