The current NB shoe has a good balance of cushioning and support, and a low arch for people who prefer it. Trained and ran a half marathon in it and had no problems at all.
The Brooks model has stiffer cushioning and a higher arch. Also has a wider outsole, which i think gives more stability. Feels heavier than the NB model though.
Soft cushioning + low arch + moderate stability = NB
Stiff cushioning + high arch + high stability = Brooks
The best thing about these shoes is that they come in a variety of widths, thus ensuring a good fit. In the departmental stores, most sales assistants do not know what you are talking about when you ask them how wide the shoe is.
If there is one thing the SAF has done right by its soldiers, this is it. Great product, great selection and dirt cheap.
