Feel that NSF and Regulars often lack pride in whatever they do.During open houses, when I speak to them, I can't help but feel that they have a cannot be bothered attitude.They don't take pride in whatever they do. I have spoken to some NSF Officers and when asked if what their roles would be in a conflict, they always give this standard response, "Sg won't last 10mins, they just have to surround us and bomb us into surrendering."And when asked about exercises they conduct, the usual reply of"Iyah...wayang only" this shows an utter lack of seriousness in doing what they are supposed to do.
It truly is sad to see people who are so indifferent and not taking pride in the security of the Nation. -

Aiyah...you have not been in army you dont not know how army work things out...alot of regular is full of pride and excitment and even compassion b4 they decided to sign on.......But things change when they are inside.....Must understand lor......

The problem I think lies in part in the quality of our training. I have to say that SAF military training is by and large, a load of rubbish and a waste of time. No serving soldier should EVER have to shout *bang bang bang*. Wtf?! The instructors are usually out of their depth anyway.
Of course, this is in stark contrast to how serious the SAF takes the business of Wayang. Why run in the morning at 7:30 -8? Why shout and sing loudly? Because that is when the bosses come to work. I fear that this is probably a taught module at OCS because officers are the foremost experts at this.
I think they call it 'leadership'. -
NSF = Being forced to serve to remain in Singapore
Regular = Mostly bo bian no money,or serve very long liao sian of the system.
NsMan = Even more sian suddenly tio recall have to on hold all the work in the office or student suddenly got exams , studies etc tio recall also sian.

Hmmm..........I have visited other country military forums, they seem veri siao on and enthuastic abt their own military. It is to my knowledge that those China folks that are in tertiary education system must serve 2 weeks compulsory in their army. From the forums, those folks seem to be veri happy and positive, while we all here.............................haiz.......................

it's hard to take pride in the things u do if u don't enjoy doing them or u are being forced to do them. this is the case of conscripted NSFs.
while there are some NSFs who are garang and take pride in whatever they do or at least have a positive mindset and understand their responsibility. but the truth is, majority of them are as what i mentioned above, therefore it's hard to install pride if one is unmotivated. -

but then .. when talking to the public about national security issues, either you say you dunno or you say you believe we can do it.
Saying we won't last 10 minutes is damn unprofessional and not very PR, if you ask me. -

1. isn't shouting bang bang bang to indicate your position when you ran out of blanks? unless you have better ways to do that?
2. why run at 0730-0800. if you agree that running is important to maintain fitness, then please suggest a good time for running. 1200 with the sun above your head?
3. I suppose the shout and sing is for cadence and keeping your spirits high, though personally I think it is quite wayang. It is SUPER WAYANG when army boys sing along east coast park!

it's hard to take pride if one is not even recognised for the things one do? or doing things that the higer ranks should be doing, instead of always being thrown down to the lower ranks.

If you wanna complain that 400 is little, it is. But you have to look at it that it is afterall an allowance. Those indonesian maids work here for 2-3yrs, get 240 a mth, kena abuse, eat grass and all that...does the SAF do that to you? Why don't u guys think of it this way, what is the price of freedom? What is the price of having to be ready 24/7 a year?

but by large maids are treated well and dey made personal choice to come here wad -

I do not have a maid in the first place. And also, its stupid for me to employ a maid to serve NS on my behalf. I mean hell...when you guys who have served or are serving bitch about being in there, low pay and all that, and you see those wise ass who doesn't have to serve, you complain. What for? Cuz u want them to suffer what you didn't like in the 1st place?Its plain childish, to be frank it would actually be bad to have those highly motivated ones and those who take pride in their work to be downplayed by the few who have no pride nor faith in the system which has kept us safe for the past 40yrs and 9mths!
