true, we should all put in effort and heart into the things we do. but what if u find out that after all your hard work u are not given credit for it or they just take u for granted? or use their authorities and force u to do the things which they themselves should be doing. will u still take pride in doing them? -

imagine i fire 180 blanks out of my M-16 in one exercise, i think inside will look like a chao ta coal mine alrady. i will need to sit down 2 weeks and use 2 big rolls of flannelite to clean!!
it's not a matter of SAF not willing to spend money. but if i shout BANG BANG then no need to clean my mouth. but shoot blanks then must clean rifle until like $#$^#$ like that
my own two cents about this pride thing, is that while we really end up doing everything out of lan lan and suck thumb, at the end we feel A LOT of pride at having endured and survived everything we went through. 7 days in the field! turnouts! 24k route march! countless tekan! improving 2.4 timing by 2 mins!
i may not be proud of the SAF, but im sure proud of myself for having accomplished all that. haha i just POPed yesterday =p

My point exactly...you don't have to be proud of the SAF.You just have to be proud of what you do. What you are tasked to do. And after completing it, ask yourself if you have gave your best. If your answer is yes...then good for you. But if its no...nothing to be sad of...but you should learn the lesson and better it. -

He thinks he wants to give his all to the country, then let him...as I always say, live and let live, and as for us and many others out there, let us make our own decisions as to whether we feel pride or not...heck its just passing time, going thru the motions if you ask me....so as not to get into trouble...
When all is said and done, we all will find our fortune in our own way, in other countries of course....then again SAF is here also to serve a purpose, to be a client to many companies here in SG...
Sometimes, I feel so sick and tired of berating SAF, its just best that we go elsewhere after going thru the motions.....its all a matter of personal choice...after all, no one can force us not to love SAF or to just pack up and renounce SG...hahaha

its all down to the vocation one does, and whether he sees NS as a waste of time, or to experience Army life. to train hard to refine his skills at his vocation, or to go through the motions and let his countrymen down when it is needed.

What other countries? By that I suppose you mean the US army? The brits do not sing when running.
SAF, at least the Singapore army, does not generally provide 'top notch training'. On the contrary, training is generally of the tick-in-the-box just get it over with variety. Instructors are, as i said before, out of their depth. The exception to this, of course, is when non-SAF instructors are involved. Eg. SAF driving courses. But even these courses are being whittled down.
How many rounds does the active infantry soldier get to fire in a year? I would say the answer is simply 'not enough'.
I cited the lack of blanks generally as an example. I cited the lack of range time as an example as well. I will cite another example: How many times have the m203 gunner fired his m203? You do not have to give the answer in an open forum, but all who have served will know the answer - Not Enough!
What about SAF's survival training? What sort of practical is involved? Do students actually learn survival skills? Do they have enough practice?
All these point to training not being taken seriously in the SAF. I do not think any reasonable person can conclude otherwise. -

but after gg thro all the bmt and cuz after cuz after cuz..
U`ll feel that the instructers aint really professional at all
they cant march wanna teach drill
they cant shoot wanna teach shooting
they cant run wanna ask us run..
the worse part is when they nua and wanna ask u do work..
Pride? it seems more like a dream..
during my NS, i`ve met the worst aS-s holes in my life..
regulars and nsf alike, they jus wanna nua and push all the work and responsibility to u

they make u sign SOL and do extra for genuine mistakes
