true, back in my cadet days, the cadet's mess was run by the auntie. so i guess the mess boy "vocation" really depends on the CCO. subject to manpower availability. i.e number of kengsters or downgraders, huh?

Ah, i remember kena arrowed as a messboy in my recruit days. Kena a 1 week att B, then CSM, nice fellow... asked/volunteered me to be a mess boy down at school 2 mess.
Not bad, quite a chill out thing.. even the house fly in the mess also chill out. U can touch them and they won't fly. No, I did not spike anyone's food.
Quite alrite lar, its was like working at the cafe all over again. Talk to the WOs, CSMs, SPecs alike. Chit chat with them... listen to their sad stories. Made a lot of new friends that way.
Somehow, as a messboy, its the only time that as a recruit, they actually talk nicely as instructors. THat is, if u are courteous and nice to them also lar. Customer Service techniques apply.
Meanwhile, during the day, just have fun playing pool, watching DVDs, and help with a bit of the cleaning up here n there. THe aunties were damn nice also... they keep feeding me with lots of free food! Hahahaha, shiokest time as a recruit! -
mess boy in my camp is a duty. for those cant hold arm or excuse running. jus look after the mess only lor.

i got a fren told me he in this camp mess boy were bully by his superior, he told me tat every morning need to mop the floor clean the window wash the toilet, sometimes his superior nt hapi will come and scold the mess boy and is a cpt i tink.
and their working hour is 7am to 9pm, means working 14hrs a day, cant even have off when there is a event. poor him, sometimes they need to come back on sat to clean the mess. not like some other mess. last time their mess boy work 1 dae off 1 dae.
although cant compare them between combat due to their medical status. he bo pian kena suay suay posted there. and by right they should stay out instead he make them stay in.

makin ppl ns life so jialat cant even have peace. they only serve 2years. why they must abuse themselve making ppl hate them
when i see warrant officers and spec are totalli different frm them...
if SAF got mani understanding ppl, our 2years will be veri peaceful and no bullies...

One of my poly classmate who OOCed from OCS was a messboy. Life was quite good, obviously. If no officers were around, he would either be polishing up on his billard/pool skills or he would be using msn and playing diablo2 etc. He gets free unlimited access to the normal beverages like milo,coffee and soft drinks. Once in a blue moon, he might even be able to nick some tiger beer. -
I have never been a mess boy and have no wish to be one. I know the mess boys in my mess. The way I see their job is that it is a very boring and crappy job.
Do this experiment. Try having nothing much to do in an enclosed space (e.g. home) and lazing around for 1 week. How would you feel? I would feel bored to death. But cannot be help, I have to endure this boredom.
Compared to the mess boy, he has to endure this bullsh*t boredom for dunno how many multiples of 1 week. Pity him.[/b] -
maybe u can introduce him a good book to read. or advice him to do some self studying.
