Checking clear...

I remember this very distinctively. During BMT, M16s (my time) were always loaded with a magazine, be it during training or kept in armskote.
Even when checking clear, we were taught to check clear with the magazine attached. I also see orientation shows for recruits having the magazine in when checking clear.
Then when 1st posted to unit, of course we continued this practice (not live firing, just normal, no blanks training). Until one of the PCs screamed at us 'who taught you to do that? you know how dangerous is that' and then kenna punishment. It is only after that we realise that it is totally wrong procedure to check clear with the magazine within.
BMT training still teaches recruits to check clear with magazine inside? What a screwup. -
No lei...my bmt...which was few years ago taught to check clear without magazine....

i'm not sure abt other companies, but for my coy (V coy) we do the check clear drill w magazine out.
seen other companies among the S cluster doing it w magazine in -

Starting is to open file : Dalam buka parisan kerkena ru...lus
Then is for inspection port arms : untok di-pereksa tantang senja...ta
Then after check clear for abt 3 times,muz ease spring : Lepaskan sepering
then order arms : Turun senja...ta
then close file (i forget the command!!!)
before all this plz stedia ur men!!!! -

Whichever BMT instructor who taught you to check clear with a magazine still attached sure must have a screw loose in his head.
I've always been taught to remove the magazine prior to checking clear the weapon. What's the point of checking clear with a magazine attached? If the magazine is still loaded, you're just going to load another round into the chamber when you pull the charging handle.
That sure defeats the purpose of checking that the chamber is clear.

IMO, it makes more sense to remove the magazine before checking clear. But either way is safe too. If the magazine is loaded, you can tell when you observe the chamber. But its silly to check clear with the mag inside because if there is a round, then you have to press that little thing to make sure the bolt stays behind, unload the magazine and probably fish around for the round that has probably disappeared in the grass.
IIRC, with an empty magazine in, it is easier to check clear since the bolt will automatically stay behind? But my memory is hazy though -
a regular once ranted to us about how they were teaching all the wrong marching commands in BMT and he had to retrain all of them. since i could never remember a single march command, i had no idea what he was referring to, but it was really fun watching a grown man with a pot belly performing ceremonial march for some drunk idiots.

hahah wth... you check clear with magazine on is = no use what cos if magazine got round the bullets will feed into the chamber so you check clear also no use ma

if you have a round in the magazine...and then you cock to check clear...sekali the round goes into the chamber...then whats the point of checking clear?
definately remove magazine...think either put in lower shirt pocket is most appropriate... -

no la where got check clear with magazine?everytime after drawing arms we have to take out magazine first then check clear.HOWEVER, we do check clear WITH magazine sometimes b4 returning arms with the untok de pek san tatang senjia ta drill.I suspect the untok de peksan drill is for fancy purposes as my commanders always make us do the drill if it is not coordinated as a platoon.Can anyone verify this?

correct procedure is check clear WITHOUT mag.

Release the magazine, then check clear. It's the most logical and safe way.
Those instructors who teach otherwise, need to get that into their heads. -
actually these kind of thing don't have to be taught. it's simple logic and common sense.

Me was taught and trained to clear my rifle without the magazine wor... Even when me was the platoon's armskote IC, me remembered that all rifles were without their magazines when returned...
