i'm NSF in the service and support side. is there any way to NOT go for the 1-year overseas posting? other than avoiding the medical FFIs for overseas posting.
are you asked whether you want to go or not? -

yeah i know the conditions and pay in taiwan (and to a lesser extent, thailand) are great. but i am still not at all keen on being stuck overseas for 2 x 6 whole months. furthermore, there is the chance of being posted to brunei, which pretty much sucks.
so any way for me to get out of this deal, anyone? -

anyway, if you dont want, just tell your chief clerk loh...then give the reasons say your parents dont allow you to go....etc...

when u are informed, u are 90% heading to the destinated country. dont even bother to chao keng, coz i have seen only 1 outta 10 personnel successful in avoiding such posting.
many were reluctant to be posted overseas, but trust me, once u are there for more than 3 months, u will voluntarily extend your tour. -
hmm...unless u can lie and tell them u got family problems and u are needed to stay in singapore....of course...your parents must vouch for this...

i will recommend u to go.. now overseas allowance is abt SGD1300+.. after adding in ur ns allowance, every month u can get at least abt SGD$1700.. y not? not every nsf have the chance.. u get to adapt to new environment, new culture..

Taiwan was not bad,better than the "offer" i have for brunei.
Anyway if u really dun wish to go,i think it best to tell your chief clerk 1st or S1,just tell them your parents do not allow u to go and tell some family problems cause it a Year,no joke.i think u can return once only.
If this do not work,i think durning the medical FFI just tell the MO u can't go cause u have some family issue,not gd to chao keng lah unless u have some illness(asthma) or something then use it 1st(it depend whether the MO gd or not also)
If this did not work again and u seriously dun wish to go,then it will be a gd idea for your parents to go down to see your s1 ,OC ,if this did not work out,then no choice it CPC.
The last resort is to your MP(but going to MP it not very gd liao,best is settle within your own camp lah)
Alway remember to follow the hierarchy it very important,gd luck. -

Somemore as a low-ranking NSF it certainly lose out to those regulars,unless u have gd EQ able to brother brother with them then u can have a better time.
In sg if anything happened still got backup(parents)but in oversea it hard,yeah they say got internet access etc but usually this are for higher ranking pp hahahaa . -

Somemore as a low-ranking NSF it certainly lose out to those regulars,unless u have gd EQ able to brother brother with them then u can have a better time.

for crescendo posting, u can really live off comfortably with $500 monthly remittance in thailand, plus saving $500 in ur bank. it is a blessing than having $300-$400 per month as an NSF. how many times do u hear NSF ORD with some decent savings in their bank account?
unless u are posted to HQ, 1/3 to half of the training camp consists of NSF. far apart from your homeland, regulars aint as dao as you thought they would be. -

If his parents seek instead of himself should be ok,cause his parents are clivlians unless it is seems that he himself have an intention to induce his parents to seek help.If he is under 21 will be gd.

why you all say that nsf approach MP is an offence? NSF also constituent mah, we elect MP into parliament, MP speak up for us also wrong meh? then if minister of defence is your MP, complain to him also wrong arr? curious curious only..

from my understanding, they believe NSF should always approach their immediate superior instead of seeking help from non-military agencies. -

It wouldn't hurt to go overseas. You could get exposure to another culture, language, etc. Some folks have to pay big mulah for that, and if you can get it semi-free from the SAF, then I'd go for it.
While I was in the U.S. Army, I had the chance to stay overseas at a military base in Germany and later in Italy. It was the best experience ever, since I had never lived outside of the hick town in Michigan where I'm from. It was a little weird at first, because I am Asian and a woman, but it after awhile, you learn to assimilate to the culture.
So, yeah...if I were in your shoes, I'd take the offer!
