Relationships with a military man

Do guys in the Special Forces (SEALS, SOF, NDU, Commandos, Rangers, etc.) have worse relationships than "regular" soldiers? I have a friend who is dating a Navy SEAL, and quite frankly, I'm concerned for her. Just want some opinions...thanks!

Well, I saw a documentary which said that the SEALS have the highest divorce rate among all the branches in the U.S. military. I'm thinking along the lines of the SEALs clandestine operations. well. in a relationship, u want to share your probs and achievements. how u expect special force guy to share his feelings and probs? so whatever probs the man has, he would keep it to himself. thus u can expect the guy to be abit cranky at times.
so the wife have to be super understanding to his job. she has to understand that he would be gone for missions for days or weeks at a time and he might not be around when she needs him.
just my 2 cents.

My second GF dumped me for a Army regular, and within a month she regrated it, saying he has no time with her....

So, if the boyfriend was a SF soldier, would that mean that he wouldn't be allowed to tell me? For someone who's in the SEALS or SOF, are they allowed to tell their significant others what their job specialty is, or would that be a breach of their security clearance?

I don't think it's any different from the norm. While there were some guys who did get divorced, most of the others were in reasonably happy marriages.

In TV dramas and detective fiction it's always the policeman who has the relationship problems. I don't recall actually watching any show or reading anything in which the soldier has such issues. In fact if the hero is the soldier he always gets the girl in the end, while if he's a detective he always loses her. I wonder why is that so...

well, ive observed that MOST soldiers who are in very physically demanding units, really wreck havoc out in town once the weekend hits. Me included. If you were to ask about the method behind the madness, from my point of view : you get treated like shit for 24 hours 5 days a week (at least, over here its like that) once you're set free, you're like a lion in the Coliseum who's seen the first piece of meet in days. -

Well, to answer your question, my Dad used to be in the SAF a long time ago, so I still have the military blood flowing in my veins Besides, I served in the U.S. Army for some time after graduation, so there you go I've always had lovin' for men in uniform, especially the Special Ops guys-- to me, they're still smarter than the average grunt.
I suppose having a group of alpha males stuck in a place where shit gets flung at them would cause them to break free once TGIF hits.
Makes good sense.
Call me crazy, but I think I'm one of the rare breed of girls who actually digs military stuff. Yeah, weird, I know...
Lovin' Singapore and soakin' up the sunshine-- damn, it sure is better here compared to the U.S.! -

Guess they don't like guys wearing camopaint on their faces and playing bang-bang in the middle of the night.
I once had a girlfriend while i was on a military course, so i could only leave camp on weekends. She would always be waiting outside camp for me to come out, and she would always send me back. I thought, wow few girls are willing to do that. But unbeknownst to me every weeknight while i was in camp there was this guy who was wooing her, sending her home from work, flowers, dinner and stuff like that.
One fine day she confessed to have taken a liking to the guy, and when i asked why she just said "you're not around most of the time, i need to be with someone who's there for me." OUCH! -

Damn, Hellraiza-- I guess the old adage still applies: trust no one and assume nothing. I've always wondered what it is about women and Army guys which turns them off. It's like that in the U.S. too-- my hypothesis would be that perhaps men in the Army aren't in as "prestigious" jobs/roles as Navy or Airforce. In the military's pecking order, I think Army would be considered the bottom of the totem pole, and Airforce would be at the top. The way I look at it, if a woman chooses to be with a military man, regardless of branch, but especially in Special Forces, then she should know the relationship which she will be getting involved in. Don't complain when your man is called for a month long mission. But, having your girl cheat behind your back while smiling in your face is another ball game altogether. That was a viscious thing to do, considering that you're putting your life on the line to protect the country and her as well.
Of the three branches (in the U.S. there's actually four military branches, because the Coast Guard is considered a military unit), personally for me (and yes, call me weird, but boot camp will do that to you), I have always liked the Army boys. Special Ops men seem to have a "bad boy" attitude to them, which to me, is very attractive

Aren't there suppose to be 5 in the US? Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and Marines?
