Am wondering guys, why is it that when Feu De Jour is executed, the rifle has to be cocked after every shot? And when using the weapons for MILES simulation or training, the weapons can be fired semi-auto w/o the need to cock after each shot or can even be fired auto. Is the ammo used for drills different from the ones used for exercises?

Nothing to do with the lack of the blank firing attachment? If I'm not mistaken,both the blanks use for exercises and drills are black bodied, and have a silver base with matallic green percussion cap. So whats the difference? Please elaborate,thanks!

A blank round is a blank round. The reason for the the GOH to having cock their weapon after every round is due to the fact that the retaining pin within the bolt carrier group of the M16 has been removed.Hope i am right on this ..either this or the bolt cam pin is removed ..i can't remember which extact part of the rifle is removed.Originally posted by SpecOps87:Nothing to do with the lack of the blank firing attachment? ehh... if remove bolt carrier, then the weapon cannot even fire liao! Its something to do with the blanks used.
Bolt carrier is removed only during SAF day parades etc when there is NO feu de joir.

SpecOps is spot-on. When you do the FDJ, you use the normal flash suppressor instead of the blank attachment. Because there's not enough pressure in the gas return tube, the bolt carrier group is not pushed back, and the weapon therefore has to be readied manually for the next shot.

So that means...the need for the weapon to be manually charged each time is due to in sufficient gas being forced back into the gas tube to help eject the cartridge and load another into the chamber?And that this has nothing to do with the ammo at all?

They are just making use of the inability of the M16 to cycle fully. -
It's a combination of the ammo and the flash suppressor. When you fire a live round, part of the air that's pushed in front of the projectile goes through the gas return tube. With a blank, the only thing being pushed through is the gas discharged from ignition from the round. wads that piece inside the bolt carrier. Look a bit like flower one... i suspect thats the piece thats removed.

It's just of our M16 uses the gas charged from the firing of a round to work, so because that insufficient gas is returned from the chamber to push the bolt carrier group backwards to eject the expended round, thus need to manually pull the charging handle after every shot...
