Runners in the SAF are wrongly used

Runners in the SAF (Platoon, company, battalion (CO, 2i/c, etc) and upwards) are often so badly used.
During active time, I saw a CO send his runner to go clean his bunk, cook food for him, etc. Even saw one runner sent up a tree to pluck rambutans!
I would think the orignial idea of having a runner is to have someone relay messages when other lines of communications have broken down. Not have someone play "maid".
I always kidded my friend that he should have told his commander that he'd send a fit sri lankan maid to take his place, and she probably be able to cook better meals than him.
The sad thing is that often these runners are some of the better soldiers in the army and would make decent to good section 2i/cs.
I think its time to change their designations to something else and give them some other real military responsibility than make coffee in the field. -

i was under estab in one of the KAH office in division hq...... and i kena also those things....
but then again, i also leading good life there. i can still remember i went out camp during lunch time just to go shop to buy this particular brand of tea. cos my boss likes the tea and expect it to be served everytime after lunch.
imagine his PA and me got frantic when his tea ran out.... hahaha hilarious...
but overall...my boss is a great boss... so i do not mind running errands for him... even though its meaningless and out of job scope. -

runners usually get good life in the army. especially RSM runner. so i think they dun really mind doing something out of their job scope for them.

But yeah, don't disagree that runners generally have better life.. except when at the end of digging trench / laying comms line, still must make coffee / tea for someone else.
But I think the issue is that it is such a waste of good manpower. -

I divide NSFs into two camps
One is general slaves, doing the general sai gang
The other is attendants
yeah, from the way some people describe, clerks, runners, PA etc would fit in this description -

and depends on your boss too. If u r from batallion...most likely lots of attending need to be done...
if like me...from division level....hahah i spend most of my time at the canteen and in bunk sleeping.... -
not only runners r wrongly used.. actually a lot of men were wrongly assigned their vocations.. example, a pes A nsf who went through mths of bmt n was assign to b a storeman.. worse is he have to work under pes C CQ spec.. lol.. tis is jus one of the many examples of how stupid saf is..

anyway... there is an excess of manpower or nsf's in recent years that they do not know where to place these excess....
