NS Rank Promotion: Why Reservist NS Units Refuse to for Men?

  I think the current way of awarding ranks to soldiers today is wrong.
  
  How often have we seen a bungling 2Lt or 3SG try to lead a platoon/section just because he is a "A" level or poly grad and thus "promoted" to that rank.
  
  Then we also see super capabale LCPs who would probably make section commanders or better, because they have the common sense, qualities and leadership abilities that the men respect.
  
  My unit also had a few "O" level grads who after army went on to do their degrees overseas or locally and became great success for themselves, establishing themselves as leaders of men.
  
  I'm not knocking all the "A" level and poly grads. Many of you are success of your own right (you know who you are so you won't feel threaten by this). But the system right now is bad....
  
  And really, how often do you see a LCP or private get promoted while in the reserves, despite the often stated "you can be promoted if you perform well during your NS training".

  if you are a clerk you will be amazed what the SAF do for appraisals.

  Yes, no one actually reviews the appraisal to do the proper promotion.

  we are a country with the most paper generals - all armed with academic qualifications.

  Army is a big rich never die organization,hence it don't really care how rank is assign loh,in the end who suffer,well it us the taxpayers lol.

  u really tink the top ppl up there will bother abt these small issues? they r more concern abt when is their next crab coming or when is the star going to fall on their shoulders.. anyone wif a crab n below r jus slaves in their eyes.. tats saf..

  You kidding! Where does your CO think he was at? Spa? When got army guys don't smell one? Put on the uniform straight away start perspiring already.

  here is one good case for study
  
  my coy 2IC was a brilliant...graduate..but he is damn screwed up, everything go by the book without a teeny weeny experience on the ground, in fact, i think he screwed up big time in the office too, with many 'ideas' that do nothing but hampering our work
  
  my OC, an experienced chap in the maintenance formation, and who has got into serious conflicts with the management in Bn HQ, started to realise something is wrong with his officers
  
  so afterwhich he forced every OCS fresh grad to work on the ground for a couple of mths before they are allowed to step into the office
  
  and the change was amazing
  
  i think, most of the time, it would be taxing to change the system, like my OC who cant prevent idiots from going into OCS, but he can change under his charge without doing anything to their ranks

  Just for the record, I'm not totally anti-SAF.. the organization does have their qualities.. espcially when compared around.. no corruption, decent logistics, etc.

  Good for your OC. And I'm sure most of us have met a person like your 2i/c.
  
  I'm not saying we should demote the "incompetents". But more of recognizing the real talent that already is in place.

  That's the kind of OC that should be standard issue. Have some common sense and ingenuity so that problems are cleared up asap..

  actually in my unit its more of regulars vs nsf
  
  common, coz logistics units are regulars-heavy units usually
  
  so, sometimes my OC cant do much too, coz 'excess baggage' warrants and all will have their rice bowl broken

  aiya if you white horse confirm go OCS one. They even give you chance even if you fail many times. This is not a myth this is a true FACT. Singapore as long as you are scholar means you are good. But there are really very good scholar and lousy ones. but i can only say lousy one got more. Regulars are fark up. They think we NSF are dirt. So we NSf must show them that we can do better outside and screwed them up when we see them next time.
