Reason the commands are in Malay because the national language is Malay.
Before people jump on me, if I am correct, the national language of Singapore is Malay. While the language of administration is English. Something to do with our heritage.
As for drill, I never really enjoyed it too. Most hated word was "semulah!"
But drill is suppose to teach discipline and teamwork. We certainly are not gonna do a "sedi-ya" on the battlefield.

Eh, I think that if ou are in a uniform group, NPCC definitely has the most number of commands.
You guys forgot Baton drill. It is done in Senandiri position.
Keluangkang Chong tah rehatkandiri.
There's also the Flag drill which I am not very sure.
Is it Hormat Panji paji? -
Hahaha! Brings back the memories... The days when I was in NPCC!
Learnt all sorts of commands from normal marching, baton drills, rifle to the flag ones...
Been few months in poly now I cant remember much!

I still prefer Malay commands. More clear cut. Malay commands still have the Introductory, Cautionary and Execution parts...
e.g.
Compare "Ke Kanan...Lu rus!" and "RIGHT DRESS!!"
The short pause in Ke Kanan Lurus actually prepares the squad for the drill they are about to execute, therefore u will see lesser cock ups, rather than using RIGHT DRESS which is so sharp and sudden.
And for Sizing command..you like to shout..
"Tallest on the left, shortest on the right, in a single rank, size!"
"From the right in twos..Number!"
"Odd numbers one pace forward, even numbers one pace backwards, move!"
"Right marker still, odd numbers to the right, even numbers to the left, right and left turn!"
"Form three ranks, quick march!"
You like meh. I've tried shouting those, sounds so stupid and silly.

i think is some cases, 'kempulan' is dropped ... -

No one is formally taught in a course.
When a serviceman dies, the RSM of his units might have to consult with his friends from other unit or other RSM (or ex-RSM serving PC/OC tours) who had gone thru it before.
RSM will remind you to only remember the drill as needed and forget it after the event.
however, the drills are documented in RSM's handbook. Some versions of CSM's handbook have it but they are old. The photos are demostrated by a MP. -
