overseas studies

anyone knows if i can apply and reserve a place in an overseas institution before i enter ns first? and also how to permanently defer once you finish ns and head there to study and possibly stay on? i need opinions pls i'm applying already. am enlisting in either sept or dec, most likely mono-intake since i quit jc2 and my highest qualifications is only o levels. muchas gracias amigos
anyone who has been in the same situation pls share ur story so i can map out my plans! -
Every institution has its own policy with regards to this.
You will have to write to them.
I went to school in Europe and they held my spot for a year until I completed NS.
You will need to complete some matriculation course or high school before you can enter college.
I think Canada, USA, and Australia are easiest to stay on after completing school there. Check out their websites for immigration.
If you want to emigrate - become a nurse in any of those countries. Fairly well-paid and for sure they want you.

Most Uni overseas will hold your spot for max 1 year or 3 academic semesters. But varies from school to school.
Since you think you can enter Uni now. Why not apply when NS is about to finish?
Either way, you still need to serve NS, unless you don't plan to..... -

You can start applying with one year left. Go to open houses and talk to the uni representatives and maybe can apply there as well if they accept the waiting time and your grades.

getting a Law degree in UK is much easier..
USA? sorry Bro, U need a Pre-Law Degree! on top of that U need to work on you LSAT. It is not easy getting into a top 30 Law Uni in USA. Maybe much harder than getting into a top 5 Law School in UK, OZ etc.

check out Businessweek they had a top 50 undergrad Uni.
I knew ppl paying from their pocket finishing off with 3 or 4 Biz major in 4yrs in Bschool.
Going to a top 5 Uni in UK is not that hard, but not sure if U can finish off with so many majors in 3 or 4yrs.

Community colleges are cheaper and many people do do well in life thereafter.
BUT .... there is a stigma with going to community colleges and you may have trouble getting the coveted job or even a first position.
Whatever the case, you should do what your heart desires BUT EXCEL in it!

That translate to about $36000 to 40000 US a year which is about $3000 a month.
Of $3000, I think your take home is about 70% that. After you spend yoru monthly. you don't have much left. -
US$40K, U don't take home 70% of that..
U take home about 80% of that.
depending on which state U are in, U can make as much as US$70K for RN.
take home after tax maybe 75% after tax.
I have Taiwanese gal working as a Nurse in LA now , salary is around US$40K starting, 5 day work shift, no need to clean ppl. shared housing cost her US$300 amth.. in that case not bad right? after tax maybe bring home US$2500, regular living expenses maybe US$600 say US$1000 tops after paying for a new Honda Civic (mthly payment around US$300). still have US$1500 left or SG$2400.
Nurses in SG can take home and saving SG$2400 and be owning a new Honda car?

if U love to buy branded stuff, like Polo or Tommy.. then it is good $$ since they cost much lower in US than SG if U shop in outlet. -
dogtor: i'm doing 2 years in community college first to get the "hang of it" since i'll be fresh out of NS and a total nimwitt after 2 years of service, will finish the remaining 2 years in a university hopefully either NYU or USC if my grades allow me to get a place in as a transfer student, anyway the college im planning to apply to is under the UCLA transfer programme.

I heard of Indo going to some texas Community College as can save $$$ and UT system must take them in given GPA is 3.5. So Transfer to UT Austin is easy.
However due to the major difference in standard, most of them don't do well and grad with GPA of 2.5 to 3.
Alot of HongKonger also go Community college to take classes to Siamz the harder classes in Uni prevent overall GPA from falling below 3.7.
I certainly hope the college U are going is very different, else U will suffer even if U make it to NYU or USC. -

For your info, some uni in the top 50 allow U to overload on credits U don't have to pay extra. That is how some Singaporean take double major or what by just paying 1 major fees. -

Anyway exactly my point, so that doesn't mean the rich can go to business school. It just means that you ahve to be rich to graduate with 5majors, as in any other course of study.
