Sounds like a grand old mess. Spec Techs are made Sergeants for operational reasons, not to mention their authority to grant equipment uptime status, e.g FFI certs and ammo certification.
Would a CFC do any of those? Something like this will have ripples, many unintended. -

I think we have enough of the SISPEC and non-SISPEC rivalry. Every Specialist is trained to be a junior leader in his field, be it Combat, Combat Support , Mil Engineering etc.Originally posted by tt3:oso more fair 2 those who went 2 sispec...

what is so great abt those who went thru SISPEC? they only chiong here chiong there or bully recuirts?
I know many tech specs who do much more work than those chong sua, they work everyday, get dirtied everyday... they totally deserve their pay...
i tink they should cut off combat pay becoz some dun even chong sua, dunno y get combat pay (RP, MP, Instructors).... this includes those officers too... -
Often that not, CPLs are given appointments of specialists, like some are made Safety specialists.
Like me for example, a CPL given appointment of Ops Specs but when it comes to decision making, I can't. I wonder if appointments like that are appropriate as when the need arises, I can't make (maybe not even taught to make) on-the-sport decision.
Hence I would like the question how big differences are there between CPL, CFC and 3SG. -

They are able to stand in as Platoon Commanders if the PC is out of action. Their SFC is in between our SSG and MSG, and they are usually Platoon Sergeants, from what I know.

Put it this way, even PES C2 and C9 tech specs end up as field deployable teams in ops, so what's the difference?

I saw them trying to implement this Section Leader concept, and I must say, that we will have negative consequences if we actually end up in real ops, because by weakening a maintenance section through pushing the ranks down, you will create a bottleneck because the rest of the system, i.e the users and combat units still operate in a way that only Specs in rank are recognised to have certified these systems to be operational.
Funny thing, there are Tech Specs by vocation, but their rank does not reflect it. It's one of the strangest things in the SAF. -

Orhh....they know 3SGs cannot drop the CPLs because they need at least 2 ranks difference to drop the othter 20.
So now, 3SGs can ask the CPLs to drop 20. -

i personally i think $530 or $540 sounds reasonable for a tech CFC. at least they are getting more than combat PTE's $450 and combat CPL's $520.

a CPL's $520 is also dependent on vocation for one. I used to get $585 as a combat CPL.
