Senior Warrant Officer (SWO) Jeffrey Chung was appointed as the new Sergeant Major of the Army (SMA) at a Change of Appointment ceremony held at HQ 6 Division on 19 Jun.
He took over from SWO Francis Ng, who had been SMA since July 2004.
Asked how he felt about handing over the position, SWO Ng said: "I feel very happy. It is time for the WOSPECs (Warrant Officers and Specialists) to move on."
SWO Ng himself will be moving on to assume the appointment of Sergeant Major of the Singapore Armed Forces in the not-too-distant future.
He knows that the Army WOSPECs will be in good hands under SWO Chung who was formerly the Institute Sergeant Major of the Specialist Warrant Officer Institute.
"He is more than capable of doing the job, so I do not think he will face a lot of challenges," said SWO Ng.
A modest SWO Chung felt otherwise, saying that there would be a lot of challenges ahead of him, but he was confident of overcoming these challenges as he led the WOSPECs in the Army's 3G transformation.
He said: "Our WOSPECs have shown that they are very capable and can deliver when asked to do so."
SWO Chung already has a vision for the WOSPECs - to be among the best WOSPECs in the world.
SWO Chung received the Sergeant Major of the Army symbol from SWO Ng during the ceremony which was witnessed by Chief of Army Major-General Desmond Kuek, senior officers and warrant officers.
