I've been hearing this rumor alot, can anyone prove that the following statement is true or false...
"Not Many Malays are allowed into the navy and air-force, occassionally some make it to the army but most are dumped in civil defence"
I've heared this statement all my life but no one can actually prove it true or false... I'm kinda leaning on its true...
Today watched NDP marching, I can't see a single malay face in the navy, air-force or special-force but I can see alot of them in CD...
Now I can say this, "In the NDP, everyone is carrying rifles but the Malays are carrying Water Guns"

yes it's true. they are very few malays in commando, even lesser in navy and air force. same goes for army units like armour, combat engineers etc.

Really? I mean when I was in 3rd Guards, my platoon got almost a ratio of 50/50 for Chinese and Malays.

I was barred from going when the Navy was doing a selection round during my medic course.
Needless to say, this was the event that caused me to get disillusioned with the ruling party.
'Nuff said. This debate has been going back and forth ad nauseum. And really, it gives me nausea just thinking about it. -

Is that the reason why i didn't see any armt tech that malays?i dunno abt other units,but last time my unit i can't find any malay armt tech but only indians and chinese.
But i think this is quite unfair on the part of saf. -

But i think this is quite unfair on the part of saf.
I prefer to think of it as a population proportion thing, although there are some policies which are too institutionalised to eradicate amongst the middle management, which I think is unfair to our minority races.
Fudgester, this whole shebang displeases me as well. -
why the hell would you want to be in army when you can be in CD or SPF?
you get more pay, more free time, more practical and usefull skills, and more pride. at least you're saving lives.
you'll be earning 1k+ as a fireman while you'll be lucky to get 600 as a soldier, maybe 900 if you're a 3SG.
as a CD fireman, you work 1 day, off 2 days. as a soldier, unless you're very lucky, you're in camp 6 days a week, you only go home on weekends.
firefighters put out fires, rescue suicidal idiots, generally useful, purposeful lifes. as a soldier you're going to rot in camp waiting for the next bookout. -
During my NS days in the Navy, I don't remember ever seeing a Malay at all on board ships, or even for non-combat vocations.

This is interesting. I have not enter NS yet, and I'm a Malay myself.
Looking at all the info contributed above, I therefore gather that it is good even if you are not chosen to go to the Army sector. All sectors have disadvantages and plus points.
Say,
Army will train you to be fitter (therefore, u can boast your hot body) or,
Police requires you to commit lesser but at greater pay given
Either way (or more) is great for anyone. As long as it serves its principle of "Serving the Nation", it is of great loyalty, commitment and pledge to our nation. Be honoured to be in NS =) -

if im not wrong again, under the law of Islamic. muslim are not allow to fight amount each other, and they should stay together to fight again non- muslim. and therefor, this was the main reason, why most muslim are not enlisted into army.
as for Navy, as most of the ship have limited space, therefor it wont be able to have 2x cook house to serve muslim and non muslim! therefor, most of the malay will not be enlisted in to navy as well.
however, sometime there do have malay in navy as well
