Singapore got 4 star. This rank is provided for in SAF Dress Code.
Just that current estab don't require a 4-star. -

The funny one is in one of the Army News editions. There was a picture of COL Tay Chuan Jin and CDF talking. There were at Aceh for the Tsunami relief thingy.
The caption, CDF sharing his insight and experience with COL Tay.
I couldn't help but laugh. But I think COL Tay has more insight and experience. haha. -

Actually, I never figured out the whole "local" rank crap. I always felt tat if you gonna promote the fellow, do it. If he doesn't deserve it, then don't. Kinda wishy washy. -

Local rank means you have the position and the responsibility (or the sh!t, depending on how you look at it! ), but not the pay.

I think there will only be a 4-star when there is a war. The 4 star will represent like the Supreme commander of Singapore Armed Forces.
Similar to the 5 stars in US. -

I think even in other countries such as the US, chiefs of special forces such as the Green Berets or Rangers seldom reach ranks higher than one-star, unless they go to other appointments in different formations.

Not sure about the case of Singapore. Heard that most officers will be promoted one rank when there is a war. Any one can verify?
And I have never seen anyone at Beach Road sell 4 star rank.
