Hi pple, I'm new to the forum and so not too sure if this topic had been posted b4. If so, pls direct me to the relevant thread and delete this.
Does anyone know how many percent of the SAF are females?
Do you think females should be given combat roles? -

Why not? We oredi have 1 female fighter pilot, armour commander and Guards officer.. There're always some exceptions among the female species who can perform well in combat roles.. The converse applies to some guys who can't be combatants at all... -
I would actually be very surprise if it reaches 15%. The information I have at hand now is a statistic of the females in the defence force around the world in 2002. New Zeland top the chart with 13%, United States and Australia just below 13%. Singapore didn't make it to the chart, either because the pple who compile the chart didn't have access to the info or because Singapore's female ratio is too insignificant.
The reason why I put up this topic is because I'm doing an assignment discussing on the integration of females into the military. I was hoping that there is some official statistic out there that I've missed and that someone might have seen it. Judging at the respond rate to this topic, I guess there's probably a low chance for such a figure to have been already declassified or released to public.
But thanks to all those who responded anyway. -

Who are they? never heard that we have a female fighter pilot (COL Koh Chai Hong is still a instructor in FTS?), as for armour commander, only the recent RSM appointment in 46SAR ... Guards?? It might reach 15% if you add in the non-uniformed staff, exclude NSF and NSmen from the headcount.
