Fighter aircraft - what do you think happened to the aircraft when a pilot dies in the dogfight ? Comes back to land at the airbase by remote control ?
Heli situation is different. Co-pilot can take control while the crew evacuate the dead man on the seat to the rear.
SSG to pilot an aircraft - this should be tried during peacetime, so we know how far we can stretch our imagination. There is no need to wait for war to try this simple act.
I guess the names on the photos were part of a programme to recognise the work of groundcrews.
