I think now more and more of our soldiers are better educated, they will also feel that they deserve better treatment. They know their rights better and they know the channel to voice their unhappiness. Does that mean better education = better treatment?

I feel that the threadstarter is a loser himself for disrupting his NS... only few months left... what's the big deal? Really can't wait to start studying in the univerisity issit? Some of my platoon mates did the same thing as him... and their reason was to avoid ATEC...

Only a few months to complete can waste a year of their life waiting for the next intake into Univercity. Yr platoon mates are also using the same reason, too bad the timing is the same as ATEC. So put yrself into people shoes and dun anyhow jump to conclusion!
BTW i not a univercity undergrad nor a graduate. I completed my ns a few years ago.

y we should do NS. we are high tech so we should deployed robots to do as soldiers. they are strong only need power do not need to train. they maybe can have a stronger firepower than us. Maybe Stronger than US marines.

I knew a few poly grads in my unit who wanted to enter NTU in end-July. So they had no choice but to disrupt for a few months. It was a whole lot better than waiting around for a few months for the next intake. And in case you were wondering, they went for ATEC - they only disrupted a couple of months after ATEC. They could have skipped ATEC if they wanted to, but they wanted to see it through to the end.
Get your facts right before you bring out the flamethrower. That was totally uncalled for. -

I think the increased in the unwillingness to endure hardship does reflect to a certain degree the softening of our new generation of youths. Yet it may also to a largeer extent, refelct the increase in education of the new generation. People who had more education know the means to voice out their unwillingness; the point here is that it may not necessary be that the new generation youths have more complains, but because the older generation do not know how to complain.
This is however, certainly not to say that it is a good thing. Complaints are contagious and reluntance in performing duties will certainly have an adverse effect on our military morale, fighting spirit and ethos.
I think the possible solution to this case would be to have more military and national education that aim to reduce the individualism among current generation and instill in Singaporeans more team spirit and increase our willingness to sacrifice. -
Mind you,Singapore's Geopolitical situation is not under threat unlike times in 1986,1991 etc. With our neighbour's plans to develop Special Economic Zones in Riau/Batam and Southern Johor into a special hub.It is unlikely to become a forseeable warzone in the future.Originally posted by packjust:I really have my worries with people like them in charge of our national security and future. -

If i were the threaadstarter, i will oso finish ns liao than go Uni. only 2 months and serve and fark off le. Even though ord is sept, i can look for a part time job after ord.
In this way , i got a few cash to spare before i start Uni. Instead of keeping asking from parents.
Imagine u resume ns after graduate. All ard u will be 3-4 yrs younger than u.
Don't flame me wor~~

complain is ok .... call hotline no problem , but the things that they complained , and the reason that they called hotline for..... boils my blood.
in my 2yr life in ns , i finally understand the meaning of 'ah gua ping' . really feel like punching them in the face because these ppl always caused manpower shortage resulting in very heavy duties for everyone.
if SAF takes in every small little complains , which they did.... , i bet i can see some major changes when i come back for reservist.
1)only 10 pushup per 30mins -

Not to mention that most graduates, though they return to their parent unit, will eventually serve in Headquarters rather on the ground. -

Dun understand why people prefer to waste a year waiting for uni intake. When you can save at least six months of your time and earn more when in working life than a year doing part time or Temp work.
Think long term future la! BTW i not flaming you!!
