once u fail to respect High Explosives for its power, the next time u use it, theres a high chance that it will kill u. -
All weapon in the army can kill if don't repect it. That's why SAF is so strict on losing rifle or worse grenade.

a grenade by itself is capable of killing.
in addition, the effect of HEs is MUCH more awesome than the effect of a 5.56mm projectiles (which is BALL only anyway). lets just say that HE can kill a lot of people at one go while rifles kill people one by one if the shooter is not c0ck-eyed. -

did he do trial tests? how many tests, with how many fatalities, and how many casualties with lung or hearing permanently impaired? how deep was the cut(s), would it be fatal if the casualty was not evacuated in time?
now, i tell u that the M16S1 is capable of shooting down a F-16 flying at its ceiling. the M203 is capable of demolishing a WHOLE building. u believe?
common sense is a great asset to have.
he might just be trying to allay your fears about the grenade so that you all wouldnt be too frightened to handle it and at the worst possible time, panic.
just to add on. when i was in SISPEC, there was this 1SG Bloody Idiot who said that his friend emptied a whole magazine of blanks into his leg on auto with the blank attachment's muzzle in contact with his leg. and his leg is perfectly fine (although it is fat like a pig's). u believe? try firing a few rounds into your own leg and see wat happens. -
BTW e grenade used during BMT has e same explosive power as a normal grenade but no ball bearings so no fragmentation
E plastic fragments will STILL kill if u VERY VERY near la. But most likely it will give u a very big blue-black -

my point is, its very easy for a human being to suffer serious injuries, if not die. so, always respect explosives and not talk about it like our lovely friend who said "thats why i say that it wont kill even if an accident happens".
lastly, there is ALWAYS fragmentation. so watever any soldier does, ALWAYS respect explosives. no matter wat anyone thinks, this does not change the fact of fragmentation being present, be it from the container or the environment or both. unless u r telling me that a stone flying faster than a 5.56mm round will NOT injure a person seriously, if not kill him.

Guys, regardless if its really 10% of the HE usually used, no ball bearings, etc..
It is still a grenade with HE in it. You wouldn't want to be near a firecracker when it exploded do you? We have all heard about people losing digits, entire hands, eyes, etc when being too close to a firecracker when it goes off.
Now imagine a grenade with explosive that is a lot more potent packed in a hard plastic casing that will make great fragments to slice into your flesh, eyes, etc.
Follow procedure and throw the bloody grenade properly and safely for everyone's sake. It can be fun, but it's up to you to make it so. -
I got this friend tat just cant throw, during practice using dummy gren we were all seated behind e thrower seeing how 2 throw. I just turn my head around 2 talk 2 my buddy something hit my head lucky got helmet. When he swing his hand back before throwing e dummy gren fly backwards n landed on my head .Lucky he was ban from throwing a live 1
