But that could be because I donÂ’t bow down well to authority especially when the hierarchy is based on age and corresponding seniority, not on real skills or respect. -

Contrary to eveyone else in this thread so far...
I think joining NCC can be fun. You need to take an ECA anyway right?
If you are the outdoorsy kind, don't mind roughing it, why not? You get the opportunity to climb Mount Sophia, go parachuting, canoeing, Outward Bound School, shoot a M16, etc. No other ECA will give you as many opportunities.
And some of the training will give you some preparedness for your NS.
However... Just don't think NCC is the army and the uniform you put on makes you part of the army. Even if you become a WO or CLT, that is still lower than a private in the army. -

NCC would not be a waste of time if they kept the physical aspect of it. Some people need motivation to get off their arses.

when i took recruits last time, that was this particular recruit who was a NCC WO. In terms of IFC and drill commands, he was very outstanding. However, he got attitude problem and like to take decision himself without consulting the instructors. As such, even though he did well in the situation test, he did not score well in his peer appraisal. Morever, myself and other instructors are not in favour to recommend him to go OCS.
He was very disappointed and eventually chao keng during the trade course and got himself downgraded and later on became an armskoteman. -

i believe if u really like and enjoyed that particular CCA, by all means go and sign up. but if u join a CCA but is not interested in it, then it's a waste of time. -

NCC or any other type is only for small children to play play one. You think they really same as NS meh.

I think that's a reason why u guys would say joing NCC/NPCCC is a waste of time. However, i beg to differ, the so-called 'prepare for NS life" is the part where u see the bloody NCOs f-up, then backstabbing, wayang, etc , etc ...

i can tell you these few years... UGs facing alot of problems....
nobody want to join already
those currently in UGs are not motivated and attitude problem.
maybe expose them to authority too early already -
build up their interest. those students who liked it might consider signing on in future.
