If you take away the discipline and the physical training, what do you have left? Drill? Who the hell wants to join to do something as boring as drill?
Last time, NCC attracted a certain type of persons - people who want to push themselves, who want to experience the camaraderie of military life. That is the essence of a group like NCC. You take that away and all you attract are the weirdos (as in ppl who like drills?!!?) and the LARPERs. -
yup, ncc is becoming crappier. Sad la but nowadays parents like to complain so the training is like... 20 pushups a training??? wow

Nope...no punishments at all.Gawd...my platoonmate during sec.sch days even had his parents write a letter claiming that he cannot perform strueneous activities. Basket...always training keng, in the end kena outcasted and quitted.

but looking at it, can you imagine a say Sec4 ncc member giving corporal punishment on a sec1 cadet?
can the sec4 boy take the responsibilty if anything happens?
MOE stance is anyway, by right, no physical punishments on students unless permission from principal right?
So why must UG be different, i.e able to give cadets push ups, run arounds etc?
UG is different from SAF. They have the MOE to answer too as well. Must follow MOE guidelines.
I think should focus more on character development... actually, imagine being a Platooon Sgt in a UG. In charge of 20+ 30 over cadets. That's a positive leadership experience, if guided correctly.
But some teacher commanding officers... cannot make it one... hai....
Think now all parties want to make sure nothing bad or accidents happen can liao...
btw... NCC uniform... next year new cadets will have the 'SINGAPORE' tag on their uniform as well... following SAF. -

wah, NCC has degenerate till so jialat ah since i join in 1990. last time my skool damn siong must run at least 4km every saturday morning, do drill, uniform must starch (temasek green then), boots must be shiny, foot drill do silent one (dig boots hear sound), knuckle push-ups, much more normal push-ups, star jumps, change parade, roti-prata situp to pushups and many more. NCC only leh...
now leh? so welfare ah? might as well join girl guide?
but i admit my time in NCC has help me sailed thru NS with ease. -

NCC wasted 4 years of my CCA life in secondary school when i could have done sports and become hot with the chicks. Or at very least, gave me time to pump some iron so that i'd be more appealing to the chicks.
At the end when we took over, i didn't get a post (thankfully) and just spent my time doing my weekend homework in the store, or at the grandstand with my other slacker friends from other uniform groups. I tell you that was the best year of my ncc life, which ironically, had nothing to do with ncc. Just spend 5 hours every sat fooling around or doing work. This might be what you become. -
in the past, yes, UG is fun. i was from NPCC and learnt alot of things from there. my instructors inculcate the value 'tough times don last, tough men do' to us the hard way. every week can do more can 100 push ups and sit ups as punishments, not including PT. when we wear our uniform, we feel a sense of pride, and wear our rank with honour. when we in turn become instructors, we use the same way we were taught to teach our junior. after every punishment, we explain y we did this, not for tekan but to instill discipline to make them a better person. after training hours, the line between cadets and instructors were removed. we play, eat, enjoy our weekends with each other
but nowadays i see those UG boys, damn weak lo. heard from my bro who was the CSM of his coy, all cmi lo. abit of punishment parents shoot complain to school, demand apology as cause hurt to child, both physically and psychologically. i was like, holy crap lo, how to endure NS in the future??
i agree tt some UG high ranking cadets like CLT, CI etc etc etc does get overboard during BMT times, as they have prior knowledge abt drills, TH etc etc.. there are humble ones too, but most are as arrogant. frenz tell me not to say u r wat high ranking person durin gUG times as u will tio marked. so i do it silently lo. know act dunno, den when instructor teach, juz act as thou u learn very fast.
some advices to CLTs, CI, CSMs of ug: the rank or appt u r holding only applies in school level. when u hit NS, u start of as a RECRUIT. u learn the same things over again together with ur fellow recruit. so no point telling the whole world tt u r some big-fark during ur NCC/NPCC times. cuz u only bring more trouble to urself. -
great. so now the toy soldiers get to wear the SINGAPORE tag with the rest of us.

wah haha i wan also conned into NCC... in acs i must join 2 CCAs one sports one uniform.... so no choice lor.. then NCC air was quite attractive to me ... can sit in those planes.. carry rifles.. wah song sia. then 1st training in sec 1.. was treated like dogs sia... PT ask us to run ard parade square like dogs...song song ask us to knock it down and do 10 push ups..then continue runnning...after PT everyone started puking and turning white.. well tats my first impression.. but ok bah.. after getting used to it for 2 yrs.. all the shit stuff do be4, kena pumpings like crap.. CLTs dunnoe how to count, 1 min later = 1000 seconds= 1000 pumpings...boots must dig... haiz... but then when u turn look back and reminisce the daes in sec 1 and 2 .. quite interesting... esp when everyone bonded together.. after all NCC abit the waste of time.. but at least i noe wat NS gonna be like but much worse..

for me ncc bonded me with my friends a lot leh.
sure got a lot of boring drills and scoldings as though those scolding us have the experience or what.. but all those crap we did, now graduate le.. look back.. its just great fun.
the bond i feel is much greater than compared to people in say, library or chess club CCA?
Cos during NCC, when friends are all tired, dirty and muddy and shag, you can really see real character of people, those who are selfish, or helpful in difficult times.
Sure, you can experience that in NS years later, but such exposure, for me, is a real eye opener at such a young age. Rather than sitting in air con room playing musical instruments or arranging books as cca its much more fulfilling.
My thinking is, NCC is not a waste of time if you have the passion, interest and is open to learn new things out of your comfort zone. Same thing with everything else in life. If I'm in BAND, i'll also say its a waste of time because I have no interest in music at all, right?
NCC no doubts help one prepare for NS. As for those who claim CLTs or ex-NCC people hao-lian in BMT, I feel its their own personal character and not NCC's fault as an organisation. Sure enough, some ex-NCC cadets have gone on to hold high ranking positions. NCC has changed these few years. Will it continue to inspire boys to become high ranking officials? Have to wait a few more years to see.
I am sure MOE, NCC and Mindef are constantly reviewing policies on UGs. As I said before, many are unhappy to join UG, most are forced out by other CCAs (unless in estab. units like say SJI etc). Hence, no passion -> no motivation ->lousy cadets -> public view ncc as a disgrace (maybe?) and it goes on. -

dun think I wasted my secondary school life as I'm still going strong in it.
the people to watch out for in BMT are those former NCC Supernumeraries. they are NCC cadets wearing gold lanyards. some of them are extremely fucked up and have unworldly arrogance, as they are supposed to be more bigger fark than the CLTs. my CLT friend even told me "eh u dun go and play around with those people lah."
I personally don't see what's so scary about a few kids with gold lanyards. -
i remembered when i was picking up my brother from school one day on a saturday afternoon. I just had duty the previous day.. Then got this NCC CLT saw me looking at their training and shouted to me "Eh boy.. u wan to join in also is it"
I went up to him and laugh He automatically dropped 20
