10 Year National Service

what mean by 10 years army?
They say now is 10yrs from 13yrs. But I heard the system now is very strange one leh.
Last time under 13yrs is 7 highkey 7 low key.
Now under 10yrs system, minimum must clock 7 highkey, it was assumed that the other 3 years will be low key.
But the twist here is that under this new 10year system 7 highkey is only the minimum, the other 3 years could be low key or high key. So in the end if I'm unlucky I could end up doing 10 high key issit true?

I think is end ony if you get the MR cert. No MR cert still liable.
I hav 1 fren also do 8 high key, his unit clerk told him because he clock 7 high key but got no low key so throw in one high key but the funny thing is he MR liao leh but how come you say you clock 8 high and 1 low and still not MR.
btw MR means no more ICT or IPPT but does not mean will not be recalled. In the event of "tension" your unit may kanna activated - suay siao.
You only can retire when you hit 40 or 50 if you officer, then can get $500 when you bring all the barang barang to CMPB to dekit. -
8 hi + 1 lo = 9 years. can go MR ?? I thought must do 10 years, then MR.

There is no definite. Even if you clock your 10 years, you can still get called back. This is the army lah..

I got another slightly different question: does 10 years reservist means you can wait 10 years if never get called up means you finished reservist, or does it mean you have to complete 10 ICTs?

10 yrs national service not inclusive of active 2yrs nat svc,
mean it start counting from your very first reservist ICT.
Then I heard all the briefing or IPPT/RT session you attended that they put 0.5 all is not counted.
10 years here means when you started your first ICT then halfway you never informed Mindef to differ or postphone then is consider.
I heard is if you differed half way for overseas work or study the clock stops and starts again ony when you return.

Yah....quite confusing. What about IPPT? Would they send letter to tell you to go take it if you haven't already done so? Or would you have to ownself keep track?

for IPPT I think ownself have to monitor, just go for your window.
There is however a 'magic window' whereby lets say happen your unit MR and close liao but you still have outstanding Makeup to do, So between the time your unit close and the time mindef have yet to recycle you to a new unit this is the magic window. During this time when you try to book for IPPT online I heard the system will not allows you to book because you dun belongs any unit which the system can book your IPPT under. I heard my another fren say is liddat. shiok ah -
National Service (NS) refers to the 2 years one must serve when he is 18 years old or above.
the 10 years of reservist training after ORD is not called National Service. it is called Operation Ready Service (ORNS).
to clear things up, for non-commission officers, one must serve till 40 years old. each year one may be called up for a maximum of 40 days.
if your unit call u back every year, u can easily complete your 10 ICTs by 30+ years old. and even if your unit didn't call u back for a long time, u will still ROD at age 40 regardless of whether u completed 10 ICTs or not. -
I think the 10 year ICT is divided into seven high key n three lo key ICT.
Curious how come C2 n below seldom called back for reservist?

hey, i c2l2 or something, done 7 high and 2 low (med unit - every yr also ICT), discharged and now under MR.......no more ICTs and IPPTs and MOB. and i still long way to go to reach 40yrs......

it's a letter from Chief Engineer Officer asking us fellow engineers to come out with ideas and suggestions for NDP07 which the engineers are organising.
