would having a driving license before enlistment make u a good candidate for driver in the army?
i have my class 3 already. already finished my P-plate.
but i dun wish to be driver in army.unfortunately most of my frens say deres a high chance that i would be 1.
im hoping to enter OCS.thanks for ur advice. -
No la.. My friends got their driving licence before NS. Both ended up in OCS. And went on to serve as officers.

b4 ur enlistment you've have done an aptitude test - i thot that was the test that determine your vocation ?
I have this feeling that they had, in a way, predetermined your vocation unless certain things happen along the way (eg: medically downgraded). Having a driving license certainly have no bearing. -
To be honest, the way one's vocation is determined is still a mystery.

All new drivers go through the driving training school for Class4. It does not matter if you have a class 3 licence before enlistment.
But having a Class 3 is good. You can drive the GP car or Landrover when they are available. Maybe, you need a familiarisation which your MT Sgt can give you, or go for a short conversion course. Not sure the system now. But just be careful not to langa ......... its a lot of hassle. -
then like that... ppl who inspire to be officers in NS try not to get driving license before NS.
your having license doesn't impact you in anything lah.
Since to be driver still have to go thru approved SAF courses before you can get yoru mlitary license/LOA. -

Those posted to drivers vocation still have to go through the clss4 driving course at school of transport...now known as what i dun look since i completed my NS ages ago. army only recognize military license. once you completed the course and pass the test u will be posted to your assigned unit as driver under the (usually) logistic wing. if u posted to hq may be more comfortable to drive aircon cars but with the short fall of having to face officers and crabs everyday which is no freedom as compared to unti where the most u face is pl sg or pc.
even those who are non drivers selected may be posted to the 1-2 month short driving course to obtain a clss4 so that you can drive vehicles under the class in your unit be yr vocation non-driver.
