hi guys, juz wanna check out somethin.
My pre-enlistment letter have arrived.
Currently my dream is to sign on as an Officer.
But there's alittle problem. I have medicine allergic and i have asthma
Is it possible for me to juz keep mum durin my medical checkup ?
Can i dun tell the MO anythin abt my health ? Cos i really dun wanna lose my chance to try and sign on as Officer.

you have asthma? forget it. any respiratory probs and you'll be exempted.

Then if something happens to you during your stint while training how? Who to blame? The SAF or you? Whose going to answer if you die? Can't be you, coz you're already dead. Do the right thing, and declare whatever health implications you have. You might not have the chance to become an officer, but at least you still got the chance to live.

well... back in ocs, i have friends who are asthmatic (but they are the mild cases). so u can try. if u don't declare that u have asthma and mindef post u to Armour how? all the freaking dust would kill u.
anyway, i am sure u know that u can't just sign on as an officer. u need to earn a place in ocs and commission b4 they offer u a contract.
my advice and i believe many lao jiaos over here is; think about a military career AFTER BMT. -
Y u wana sign on as an SAF officer? It's a very sheltered and regimental life in there, is this really what u want? Having that contract can set u back should u decide to do something else in the middle.
But if u can get in as a scholar, oh well, gd.
Or would u rather work in the real world and carve a niche? -

since it is mild than i don't think it would really affect u signing on. but for safety sake, please declare. this is to cover ur ass.
anyway, y u wanna be an officer? it is not what u see in "Band of Bros" and such u know?

Unless u really really have a kick leading armoured or infantry sections, frolicking in dust and mud, shouting commands and revel in camaraderie.
SAF soldiers do not get the same kind recognition that US or British forces have.

some even has drug allergy...its not a shame to have one...worry so much for wat...

My advice is same with saline, do your BMT first, get a feel of SAF then decide if want to sign on or not.
2ndly, SAF choose ppl to become officers not the other way round. So even u strive to be an officer, u still might not be pick for OCS. (During my time, even ppl who shown great leadership, able to inspire ppl in BMT, do well in SIT test also dun get picked, so I have no idea how do they choose ppl for OCS excluding the ultra nerds and scholars of course).
Many times, before entering NS, ppl get delusion of wat and how SAF shld be based on their thinking, computer games and their "references" from hollywood war films BUT once they enter they will find that what they "think" is far from reality.
So be wise, make ur choice after BMT. -
but you can voice to your officers or enquire at CMPB...then they will ask u for interview to see if u suitable for OCS ... liddat safer than wait for selection.

Well, to be able to serve the NS i think it's an honour. Different people have different thinkin and prospect towards life ba ?
Thus some might like it, some may hate it.
Well for me, i find the joy in doin things that i like ? Thats why, i am tryin my best to see if i can get into OCS. Obviously it wont be so easy and i know i need to do my very very best. But i dont wanna let my goals down. -

my medical letter also just came... i want to knw any of you guys are flat footed ? will flat foot affect my pes status ? will i be in non-combat? i wish to be in combat tho...

i got childhood asthma too.. just declare, i tink more than 3 years no attack... will be treated as no asthma... me PES A
flat foot i nv declare... cos i did't know till after the medical i had flat foot.. so heck care... dont tink will dwngrade becos of tt anyway -

Want to sign on as officer? Last time very easy one lar.. Not sure about now, but last time when I was in BMT, there was a short scheme for you to sign on as an officer. I believe it was 3 years, and if you consider 2.5 years NS liablity (during my time), in total you actually serve 1 year extra.
Many of my platoon mates signed on that scheme, and I almost did too. It was not a bad scheme to save and fund university studies after, for those that are less well off. I believe 90% of those that signed on actually got it. Not sure about current HR requirements. I think might be more stringent nowadays. Last time pass IPPT, range, and SOC sure can sign on officer. Now I dunno. -
