When MINDEF announced NS shortened to 2 years......

how many of you got caught in between..
there was a batch of NSFs who were like 2 months away from ORD and about to clear leave. was planning to use the leave to look for job and sustaining themselves with the allowance..
then suddenly MINDEF announced the change, then got to ORD in 5 - 10 days. Suddenly all your plans gone awry... no jobs, no allowance, off burned...
anyone??? -
i was finished my BMT then.

I got nearly two months burnt.
One day I was busy getting my off/leave schedule ready in time to ORD in two months' time. The very next day I found myself being forced to clear as much leave as possible before I ORDed in a week's time. -

it's good news for those who have lots of outstanding extras to serve during the last 2 months. they can just ORD in a week time and some poor fellows will have to cover their duties.

he did not pass IPPT, S1 told him that he will use no OFF and on the leave, he reports back to camp every saturday to attempt IPPT.
Then he also got 5 outstanding extras, he was a Platoon sergeant but because of the leave RSM can't plan BOS so make him do COS.
But he ORD in 10 days instead. -
I'd already disrupted and was studying for my degree in UK when the cut was announced. And since my enlistment date was before the cut-off date for receiving the reduction, I did not qualify for it. Thus in the end lan-lan ended up serving 2 years 4 mths in total when almost everyone else in my unit was serving 2 years max.

I was serving the remainder of my disruption and as the annoucement wasn't exactly clear, all the other disruptees were all thinking and hoping that the change would affect them too, thereby shortening the remainder of their service time.
That wasn't so, and all just lan-lan continue to serve. -

HQ unit work like siao cos got some ppl sudden ord..... -
I have been enlisted for a week when the news was annouanced and I was in Tekong then...
So I got a 4 months deductions on NS... -

I got a 2 mth reduction, and enjoyed the 5 day work week, that's all.
I did see my workload climb overnight because my understudy ORDed almost immediately. So much for handing over. -
I think I ORDed one year before. I'm not complaining I didn't get it, no point complaining.
It's a great move. Time is cheap in SAF. Better for people to stay out and do more productive things. -
Yah...although I did not get the reduction in service term, I certainly can't complain about the 5-day work week and the increased allowance.

my unit got a tweaked understanding of it..
i did not really get my 5DWW. -
I got 8months reduction... From 2yr 6mths to 1yr 10mths...
Now as I about to ORD next month, I wonder how the hell I can stand another 8mths in this NS thing.
Very happy when the news came out before I enlist... Must thank Teo Chee Hean and LHL son coz we about the same batch one... -
