Last I checked, want to find quails and bunnies to eat also impossible lor. Want to eat snake, also cannot find. Only got bugs bugs and more bugs.
The jungle is not such a nice place, that when u are hungry, u will see an innoncent little rabbit hopping by, or a quail landing within reach of a hungry JCC trainee.
Maybe if u really damn heng, can see a lizard or two. And if u are the kind that constantly strike 4D, a tiger might pass by. Then see who kill who and eat who. If u kill the tiger and give the skin to the CO, they give the golden JCC badge with tiger stripes on it. -

The honest truth is that while all's well and good with training, in the actual event you're much better off going for plant-based food. You don't have to go through the hassle of chasing your food down and then killing it. On top of that, if you get a case of poisoning because you've gone an eaten some exotic reptile, you're not mission-capable anyway. Madness, really.
Case in point: our medic Ricky was not the sharpest pencil in the box. When he was watching the chicken-killing demonstration, he failed to notice that as the chicken is on the upswing, you're supposed to snap your wrist down so that the head comes off quickly and cleanly. So there he is doing a Sugar Ray Leonard impersonation for five minutes, at the end of which we've got a hysterical chicken with a sprained neck.
Ricky goes to Plan B. He gets another bloke to swing a parang down on the chicken's neck, but at the last second he loses his nerve and lets go of the chicken. Now we've got a hysterical chicken that's not only got a sprained neck but one that's chopped through halfway, and it's now running about the jungle spraying blood all over the place. Eventually, one of the lads caught the chicken, gave the neck a hard tug and put it out of its misery.
It would have been so much easier just to pluck berries. -

as far as i know, those quails are not even captured by the cadets themselves via traps or anything. they are given by the instructors. to make those with a heart of gold feel better, would u like the instructors to kill them for u 1st before handing it to u.

Ever wondered why you have to like calm the chicken/quail down by stroking it or distracting it?
Read this somewhere that it is to make the flesh tender, as compared to killing a struggling chicken/quail, not only does your job get tough, you are also ensuring you get a tender meal.
Think that its very very difficult to catch any animals in the jungle except maybe bugs and snakes.Bunnies/Chickens thats pretty tough, perhaps a wild boar?Haha, the easiest is to catch fish from the streams and rivers. Anyway, we should be thankful that we have JCC and not DCC(Desert Confidence Course) or ACC(Artic Confidence Course) as the jungle is well stocked with water, food, vegetation, shade, unlike in the desert or artic.

SpecOps87, u wanna be the first champion in JCC to catch kill, and eat a wild boar with ur bare hands?
Think about it this way... the wild boar was born and bred in the jungle. It has earned its JCC badge b4 u entered primary school. U catch the piglet... the mother will give u no end... STAY AWAY FROM WILDBOARS.
Fishing is the best idea so far. If u feel garang enuff, u can have sashimi for the entire week! Eat it fresh and u won't have problem. Unless someone has been pissing or sh!ttin upstream. No fire also never mind one, if u eat a poisonous fish, cooking it wont help much either. =D (Innoncent looking fishes are best)
If u catch too much fish, can still dry the fish and keep. Though the process is quite tedious.... but hey, wat else is there to do anyway?
i_heart_icecream : Depends if u have to ride on ur UAV anot. =D As the previous forumer mentioned, JST is for those ppl who have to be onboard aircraft. WSO UAV are usually on the ground in their airconned trailers. We have yet to have an airborne command post. =D -

After it's demise, Ricky's poor chook ended up as Beggar's Chicken. We packed it in sand mixed with seawater, feathers and all, and shoved it under our camp fire. The next morning when we cleared the embers and tried to pick it up by the drumsticks, it was so tender it fell apart. -
I remember baking a mud chicken pie for that. Kinda similar to what you'all did, just that we mixed it well enough such that the entire chicken was encased in mud.
After that, we'd just dig out from the fire, crack n pull away the mud "cake" , peel away the chicken and enjoy! =D
It helps if u saved a few maggi seasoning to eat with the chicken. But yeah, it tastes good on its own as well. -
Yup, different brand, same product, Shotgun! Because we used seawater, the chicken did get some marination, so it was good on its own.

i roasted my chicken stock over the campfire....yeah the whole chicken-on-a-stick-turning-over-fire idea...watching the skin char and the fat dripping....i was damn tempted to get rid of my team-mates so i could have the whole chicken to myself.
