Futile wait at hot spring
ON MONDAY, at 7am, I took my mother to the Sembawang hot spring which is controlled by the Ministry of Defence.
According to the notice board, the opening hours are from 7am to 7pm. We waited for the gate to be opened. At 7.30am it was still closed, so I called the number on the board but it was not in service. By 7.55am, most of the old folks had decided to go home.
We left at 8.03am with the gate still closed. Why was there no notice that it would remain closed and why was the phone number not in service?

MINDEF would like to thank freedom4ever for his comments to this forum. While we understand that most of Mindef's reply do not fully answer public's question, we need to balance between operational integrity with transparency.Originally posted by freedom4ever:LOL. then since you are COL Benedict, i need to tell you something. hmm, I wonder if anyone wait till 8.15am? Since he said that the gate was open @8.15am... If someone come out to the open and said they waited till 8.15am, but the gates is still not open, I wonder what will happen.Originally posted by Gordonator:the good COL replied liao. think he just got owned.
He said the number has been corrected implying that the number was wrong!Originally posted by tortoise55:hmm, I wonder if anyone wait till 8.15am? Since he said that the gate was open @8.15am... And since Col Ben said the phone number is correct, but Mr Lim said the phone is not in service, can we assume that no one was manning the telephone? Wonder how many the person is going to sign for this.
urgent matter is just another excuse.Originally posted by scabstermooch:He didn't get owned. The one who got owned is the person who so conveniently had an urgent matter to attend to.
I seriously wonder what's going to happen to the lobo behind the scences...Originally posted by red_amoeba:its another off-the book reply.
I have the following questions to ask him:
a. you mean if the person has something urgent to attend to, he can just forget about his duties or forget about asking someone to take over his duty (eg: opening the gates?) Whats so urgent? Buy coffee for his CO?
b. How do you know the gates are opened at 8.15 exactly ?
c. Why nobody go and check to ensure that the number on the signboard is updated and accurate? Then put the signboard there for fcuk? Deco ? What happen if got emergency and need to contact someone?
d. if its so troublesome to keep the place locked and unlock, why don't just leave the place open for public use? MINDEF can fence up other areas that are deemed out of bounds, in this manner, you don't need to stick a lobo to be in-charge of the area.
e. since this represent a negligence of duty, is the lobo charged?
Considering the fact that it was reported in the papers...Originally posted by Fatum:how many extras you think that was ? .....
