signals officer to be trained in guards

while i ve heard of signals offr posted to various formations for deployment, my friend had told me that it is also possible for signals offr to be posted to Guards to be trained in that vocation (ie. get the badge too).
Is it true? -

how is the whole processing done? wat i mean is, im in ocs now, so got to finish my whole occ and/or my unit tour before putting in my request to be sent to guards?
And, are there any other vocations (besides guards) that signal offrs can be trained in? i guess most likely armour is out rite?

ok...speaking from a sig spec point of view
know offrs and specs who have went for GCC and earned the Guards tab because of their posting to Guards Bn.
However, with the 2 yr NS thing, Gordonator has a point. I think there may not be this option anymore...or see your luck if there is a GCC one can attend.
So if u're not Guards trained ( but posted to a Gds Unit), u will wear the Blue beret with the 7SIB backing.
same with armour... except most sig offr do become armour trained... and wear the black beret upon successful completion of their cross trg.

However, some of these conversion courses are short, not more than 12 weeks. -
it highly depends on your unit if they want to send u for guards conversion course. either you carry balls and volunteer, or kenna forced by OC, or you're a regular.
alright, after signal course (officer, spec or man), you'd be posted to active units (in this case a guards battalion or brigade). from here, if there's a upcoming intake of GCC (for officer and spec is one group), your signal OC might task you to take it up if you're a regular. as for NSFs, if you're on the ball, wanna be garang, wanna hao lian wear guards tab, by all means volunteer. it you've gone thru sispec or ocs, GCC should be no problems.
after GCC, your vocation will still be under support signal but wear your guards tab with pride. so those combat fellow guardsmen (officer, spec or men), will not look down or make things difficult for you when you do things. coz u underwent the hardship and the rapport comraderie with other GCC coursemates (fellow officers and specs) will help you in future dealings within the guards unit.
many years ago, i too wanted to go for the GCC course when i first posted to the brigade. saw my fellow sispec mates who were snipers, lightstrike, scout all went for it. but sad lonely me in signal like kenna outcast... somemore i gold ippt run 9min one leh. haiz... kenna discouraged by fellow older signal spec and officers say many things to do in the company, no time to send me to such "bo liao" course.
anyway, during my time, the brigade NSF medical officer underwent guards and ranger course. see him wear the number 3 like damn garang. -

To my understanding there is no'application' for Sig Offr/Spec/men who are posted to Armour to be armour trained. it's part of the job because the signal aspect in armour is different from the infantry..and in Bn, it is common for Sig offr to know how to operate armour stuff.
As for Guards, i agree with mad campus. Due to the shortening of NS liability, one can only hope to volunteer for GCC, and not be automatically 'enrolled' should you be from the COmbat Support vocations like Signal. However, it is recommended one tries it out, the pride and the networking from GCC is indeed invaluable for life in a Guards Bn/Bde
Signal dudes are high versatile ( BHB i know
) can be posted to places like Guards, Infantry, Arty, Armour, ADA... just to name a few. Sorry no commandos. haha

erm..normally is if you get posted there (not volunteered), then you will go through GCC. So in a mono there may only be 2 guards signal officers to take over the BSO job, per battallion..well its quite rare i guess.

well, i was wondering, after the signals officer goes tru GOCC and he get the GUARDS tab, does he wear the Kaki beret as well or does he continue to wear the Blue beret?

wow.. this is really q interestin. din noe its possible for signals offrs to wear berets of othre vocations. but from wat i gather so far sounds like only a selected few will get tis privilege

Anyone can tell me about Signals Specialist course? I've been posted there from BSLC. Don't know ANYTHING about signals. Mostly pple saying very slack. Others say its the same road marches + SOC WITH signal set. Can someone enlighten me? I wish to know how much praying i need to do......

What i noe is that if ure posted to Signals as a Man, then it's slack. If u're posted for specialist or officer course, it's equallly xiong - both physically (but of course not as xiong as inf) and mentally. depends which course you're posted to as a sig spec.
IC1,IC2 or IS
IC1 is vehicle bound
IC2 is manpack, carry signal set kind + route marches
IS is more computers, servers etc
