Some NSFs I know can easily be Division or Brigade Plans Officers.Originally posted by KoolKool:I wish we can have scabstermooch as ACGS (Plans)
indeed. if one day all NSFs went on strike, mindef and SAF's operations will come to a halt.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Do you know how much work NSFs do, especially clerks? They are the ones who keep the SAF running.
wonder will we see this happening ?Originally posted by Gordonator:indeed. if one day all NSFs went on strike, mindef and SAF's operations will come to a halt.
This will never happen cos Singaporeans won't have the guts to do it.Originally posted by Gordonator:indeed. if one day all NSFs went on strike, mindef and SAF's operations will come to a halt.

NSFs pull of coup of all time going on strike
hahaha i have "Learning Army Initiative" printed on my COS. And yes, i know many NSFs who pioneered the LA experience (later KM and what have you) too. I was prob one of the first NSFs involved in the Learning Organisation Project, the experience gained invaluable.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Yes they do, only if you are working in a related line. Though I dare say such experiences that will perk up eyebrows, are not common.
Some NSFs I know have personally led Learning Organisations/Knowledge Managment and IKC transformation plans etc.
Pardon me, but why must the SAF initiate and formalise these techniques and skills? Why can't the NSFs take a proactive approach, put their hands up to volunteer for such tasks and learn from the experience? (also, is a paper/certificate REALLY needed at the end of it all?) What irks me abt our (yes, me included) singaporean mentality is that any impetus for self-improvement should stem from the govt. (i.e. SAF).Originally posted by scabstermooch:Of course, if you weren't forced to enter the Army, then you wouldn't have this problem...
I think the Army has to start looking at ways to enrich the Army experience and to increase transferable skills.
Eg. Storemen can be trained in accounts, bookkeeping, etc. Train them to industry std, make them take the exams and fail them if you have to. Infantry soldiers can get driving/security qualifications. I am not sure if combat engineet plant operators get civilian licences for the vehicles they drive but I thin they really ought to.
This is a qualifications-based society we are living in now and alot of emphasis is placed on academic ability. The army has to move on with the times. Stop wasting money on nonsense like new PT-kit, new uniforms and BS like ISO certifications and start doing something for the soldier instead.
These are all very obvious and doable things. All you need is to tighten up standards and maintain them. Of course, if COs of the various trg establishments don't want to exercise leadership and are more interested in acheiving ISO (I suspect because then when they retire they can have something to put on their CV) then r nothing will improve.
This is what I gained too. The ability to juggle tasks on a deadline, and I'm not sure about you, but sometimes I felt this perverse sense of acheivement that I'm doing something that is way beyond my rank or supposed appt.Originally posted by gonegoose:hahaha i have "Learning Army Initiative" printed on my COS. Personally, the knowledge learnt from LA/LO was beneficial, but the most impt skill i learnt in the Army was organisation and planning.
P.S. i've maintained my physical fitness, whilst i may not be able to run a 9:45mins 2.4kms, i sure as hell can still pass my IPPT if the need arises
