Huh? What is the point of that? FAC is a skill nothing more. If need be I am sure selected infantry soldiers will be taught FAC too, perhaps 1 or 2 per section.Originally posted by Shotgun:As for calling in air-strikes, and close air support, you got me man. Chances are we'd have some kinda airborne fast FAC loitering over the area to direct, or even UAV FACs.
See, FDS is special, not just RPs.Originally posted by Fatshort:FDS aint simply just RP.. in airbase no one does guard duty nor draw rifle or stuff. FDS bao kah liao...they got their own gundam to drive..
While base security is FDS' primary job, they might be involved in other stuffs too.Originally posted by KoolKool:See, FDS is special, not just RPs.
TASC stand for what???Originally posted by jarrodlim76:RSAF got TASC. Back in my time, the regulars at TASC all commandos, rangers, etc., seconded to that unit. Operations include UAVs, underslung ops as well as 'other' stuff.
FDS is primarily the airforce infantry that deals with base security. No spec. op unit within FDS, although they are trained in FIBUA. Not trained in heli-rappelling or any spec op skills watsoever to do para-rescue, unlike TASC that got all the ex red berets, rangers and khaki berets there.

Uniquely Singapore ?
Every team can be Special Forces.
That's not a bad idea.Originally posted by Quirinus:In my opinion, a purely organic Air Force special forces group would probably be outside of our current capability at the moment. It would also be unnecessary since the Commandos & Divers already do much of the Spec Ops work.
However, I think that as the RSAF develops, it might be feasible for ADA & FDS units to be reorganised into something along the lines of the British Royal Air Force Regiment. Unlike our current FDS & ADA, the RAF regiment can insert to secure airfields and can even function like infantry in defence of Air Fields. On the whole, it looks like a good direction to take.
I did see a bunch of RSAF chaps in No.4 at Fong Seng once, they all had this badge on their uniform.Originally posted by specfore:Just to cut the threads short... I can confirm that there are "specialist" units to do those things mentioned. I can't detail these for opsec reasons. I was once a reservist in one of these units. But to be honest, I cannot say that it is special ops. There is a difference between specialised tasks units and special ops units, you know.
My unit was a mixed bunch of regulars and reservists. Different backgrounds. A lot of CDOs, Guards and what have you. IPPT standard is higher... so you can guess what they are up to
Wu yia bo! Did u see it CLEARLY? Could it have been the RSAF weapons systems badge or smthOriginally posted by LazerLordz:I did see a bunch of RSAF chaps in No.4 at Fong Seng once, they all had this badge on their uniform.
It seems like a mix of designs, namely a wing in size that's in between a pilot's wings and the aircrew spec wings, a stiletto/bayonet superimposed onto the wing and an parachute-like design covering the top. The stiletto/bayonet is pointing upwards if I remember correctly.
It is worn on the left chest above the Singapore badge.
maybe u didnt see clearly becoz afaik, the only other rsaf badges that resembles pilot/acs wings are the wso(c3)/aoss and the wso(uav)/uavss. i know wso(uav) / uavss often wear their uav wings on no.4 uniform but there is no stiletto or parachute designs on the wings. in fact i think the only rsaf badge with weapon designs on it is the ADA badge (gun and missiles).Originally posted by LazerLordz:I did see a bunch of RSAF chaps in No.4 at Fong Seng once, they all had this badge on their uniform.

Nope. It clearly had fairly large wings, a parachute and a stiletto/bayonet in the middle.Originally posted by Hellraiza:Wu yia bo! Did u see it CLEARLY? Could it have been the RSAF weapons systems badge or smth

The only badge that i think remotely resembles what you described is the US Army's military freefall badge..Originally posted by LazerLordz:Nope. It clearly had fairly large wings, a parachute and a stiletto/bayonet in the middle.
It can't be a WSO badge, because the chaps were a mix of CPTs, LTAs and a few 1SGs. Why I thought it was RSAF is due to the size of the wing, which is flat and tapered at the tips like the Flight Wings..
I see some fairly surprised responses here.
