Field Defense Squadron

Hi people,
My friend got posted from BSLC to Sembawang Airbase, then his vocation is Field Defense Squadron. What is that vocation about? Shiong anot, like need burn weekends that kind, field camp etc etc. Anyone with info on that vocation? Thank you!

a lot of defence ex and so on. but be prepared to do duty.. basically like RPs. -
SBAB FDS?
easier life compared to the guys from other airbases.
whatever they say about protecting the aircraft and stuff, you're just a RP.
because in SBAB, it is the technicians who put on no.4, SBO, helmet + rifle to protect the aircraft during exercise. -
So that means like burn alot of weekends doing duty?

You will go thru ASLC(SBAB). Basically, your role is to protect the air base. Be prepared for shift duties.

In FDS, there's alot of other things which a specialist can do. Not necessary only duty, but also ops specialists and training specialists. Once passed out as a FDS Spec, you can say it's a "no weekend no holiday life", because all FDS NSF personnels are working on shift systems, except probably clerks, and appointment holders like PAs.
This goes the same for other FDSes as well. -

well theres some interesting facts about FDS
1)They form the GOH contingent in NDP, because they are the only ones in the base the handle arms and have some drill knowledge, so its pretty much defaulted to them >.>
2)trained in quite a number of weapons ( for an "RP") M2o3, Law, GPMG, AR-15 <--yes sadly AR 15) and a chance to go to the p226 course
3) have a 3 month course duration which includes of, urban fighting, digging ex. trips to tekong >.> , trained in chemical suit, (pretty similar to infantry) platoon live firing.
4) are ops ready, and run a large variety of ops in real time, which i think cannot be disclosed. -

FDS is not as bad s u think ... I m also a field defender (FDS)... but i ORDed seven months ago.. Yup...
hey... being in the FDS, u are given the responsibility to protect those million $$ planes and the air field!!!! which are vital in Singapore's Defence!!!
yes..being in the FDS u hav to work in shift... but look on the brighter side, u have more off days than your peers who book out on wkends.. if u dun believe, go calculate urself
Plus u are a specialist.... life can be much better as compared to those who have to chiong sua every now and then, MOst FDS specialist spent most of their time in the guard room doing admin work lyk working out roaster for RPs, signing in and out of arms and ammo and the mend the guard room, go for meetings wif PCs, OC, CO.... if not do sai kang given by RSM... no more out field for the rest of ur NSF life after ur ASLC... unless u became ASLC instructor.......
