The premises are very new as compared to Sungei Gedong. Near to public resisdence too so that makes booking in and out a breeze. The dogs from the Provost and Police K-9 units can be barking the whole day. And since Mowbray camp is just next door, you may want to really behave yourself as sending anyone to DB is very convenient! There is no need for transport and escort!

Anyone seen the low wall for the soc course there? Now that's what I call a low wall.

So is the training in general very tough there?
How does the cookhouse fare compared to other camps?
And how are the sergeants and commanders in that camp?

Since you are already posted there and going tomorrow asking these questions now is irrelevant as you can see for yourself tomorrow onwards. BTW 41SAR will be in the old blocks (blocks 3XX) in Kranji Camp. Those with new blocks are 4SAB, SAFPU (blocks 9XX) as well as ALTI (blocks 8XX)
the food there not bad lah. the environment so-so loh.
BTW I was from Kranji Camp last time during my NS but I am not with 41SAR.
Not sure about officers but for the sergeants it seems like they treated the men well when they are PTE and LCP.
And yes, the chicken cutlet in the small canteen in the HQ block are very nice man. -

Compared to other 3 armoured battleloons (especially the 2 battleloons in Gedong) 41SAR is the least ulu of all (but needs to walk a long way from guardroom to unit lah) since Yew Tee estate is just opposite and MRT is just a short walk away.Originally posted by Obersturmfuhrer:Simple description:

I had a bad stint in 41SAR ... from recruit comitting suicide to tank commander died from tank overturn during the regime of then CO MAJ Varma and 1WO Chandran ... when MAJ Wong Kah Koon took over, the life in 41SAR was hell ... have you ever come across a stay-in CO? ... Being a Guard 2IC was also a month once stress for all the 3SGs as the RSM never fails to reprimand us for all sorts of lame complaints ... tank overturn case resulting in death one year after another in 1993 and 1994. I still remember the SM1 no was MID 54247 ...

BTW, MG Desmond Kuek, the COA, was once the CO for 41SAR during 1992-1993. He was a MAJ then. -

The 2SG was from Gryphon company ... during the annual Armour Skills & Arms competition practice, where the SM1 overturn at the foot of BMR ...
Varma already retired and last heard lecturing in private school ... Chandran already a SWO as 9 Div RSM while Wong Kah Koon already 3-crabs dunno where now ... -

Don't think anyone need to describe to you what happens when SM1 crushed a human body during tank overturn. You should be able to imagine that. I was from 41 SAR during that period (Think those in that period already MR liao) and many things happened then. You will be surprised how many tank commanders got their toes crushed by the tank turret and got downgraded when they did not put their foot at the correct position.
To all new tankees : Do Respect whatever machines you are operating and don't play a fool around them. Human flesh are no match against cold metal machine. If you are selected as tank commander, do be extra careful as in case of tank overturn, you better react real fast. You don't get a 2nd chance.
