Swimming questions! please help!

  firstly, what if I don't know how to swim?
  what will happen when I go in?
  
  next, during which part of army will swimming come into use?
  is it just necessary for the first three months or for the rest of NS?
  
  what swimming style is the requirement?
  and finally, how much will they ask you to swim?
  (eg. how many laps,etc)

  During BMT, they will give you a swimming test. You will be expected to swim 50 meters. This is to identify weak swimmers and non-swimmers.
  
  Weak and non-swimmers will be given special swimming lessons.

  pass it at the 1st rd and when weak swimmers go for ard 8 swim lessons during bmt, lucky u can get to slack in bunk.

  1) they will teach you how to swim
  2) if you are INF/GDS or any water borne unit, i think more or less you need to know how to swim. it might be required
  3) breaststroke, 50m = 1 lap = one end to the other end

  The BMT swimming pool i can walk instead of swim hahaa
  dun worry lah very easy to pass,the depth is not deep at all.

  My operational unit conducts quite siong swimming test:
  1. Attire no. 4, no boots
  2. Start off jumping into the pool from a 3m platform, with wooden rifle (not sure if its 3m... the platform in the Khatib camp pool)
  3. Remove wooden rifle. Thread water 10minutes
  4. Swim 10 laps, any style. No time limits
  5. Remove no 4 top, and bottom. use the no. 4 trousers to make a float.
  6. Swim back to the pool side with the float
  7. Viola! Pass!
  
  BTW, the failure rate is quite high.

  In my days, you will pass the test if you swim 30m, any style (even non-standard styles). No time limits.

  ur unit's swimming test is largely similiar to the NASSA Gold Star swimming badge/award.
