Dude, u heard wrongly liao. gay also need to do NS, just that they are posted to units and vocations that are more suit them. Well...Ns is definitely forced...call it obligation or whatever..but I guess it will be here to stay...I went thru it....siong siong and all but you know what...we all have a choice....
Like many of us who have given up on Sillypore...we bear no ill feelings just because we have served but in order to protect our future generations from this perfect waste of time....we have all migrated...thrown the passport into Kallang river and moved on.....children of a new land....hey...we do have a choice....best part is....we get to withdraw all our cpf once we become non-citizens -

But i think it somehow meAningless to complain since complain or not one still have to serve,unless u r rich,go migrate to some other country if not just LL serve finish loh. -
Yup....best remedy is to migrate....of course its not all a bed of roses but neither is it all plain sailing here in Sillypore...
Moral of the story is that those who were born to explore and take risks for the opportunity to better one's lot in life..I'd say let us all migrate....after all the PRCs and the Indians are doing it....coming here to take away our jobs in IT, lecturing, research etc....oh well...why not just give it to them...let them be the second wave of imigrants to Sillypore...

to my understanding... allowance is not pay mah... its enough for ur taxi fares+ catching movie in the theatre + nice food + handphone bill and for ur expenses on ur entertainment when u book out etc...
national service is an obligation and why does many people equate it wif money? u think all the labour, hardship our young guys go through is worth jus a few hundred bucks??? and u wanna compare doing sai kang wif the banglas?
i tot working in operations / doing sai kang in NS is a duty for the country .... and it's priceless.
if u as a guy, a sg citizen whom ur parents haf chosen sg as their homeland, refuse to do NS... then u expect the gals to hold the gunfire and fight? -
Please pardon me for being honest and frank here. If you cannot take harsh words, then you do have a choice not to read on. If you do, then you exercised that option, so don't complain.
I choose to believe many people here who complain about NS are young and immature. It is not true that you are not recognised for your NS time. When you step out to work, particularly in the Civil Service, you have the NS increment and your prospects in your career is better than those who did not do NS due to any reasons.
Now, there would be endless debates about choices, and that you can choose to migrate, etc. Migration comes with other factors too, and I am sure there are many which hinder your choice to migrate and not serve NS.
I think it's about how you want to live your life. You live in a place where there are situations which you have to handle and adapt, so adapt like a man, ya? It is a learning process, and you would feel happier if you learn to like what you do, instead of choosing to do what you like, and start to hate what you had to do. -

don't know about you, but personally Im pes A and spend 80% of my time doing insignificant things. do you think it's just me??
i'm sure less of us will bear grudges if the time in camp is scheduled better and NS commitment shortened. as it is it's wasting national resources and the times of thousands of boys/men

i had done something voluntarily (has to do wif singapore's reputation in the airport dealin directly with foreign passengers ) and each time i do my duty it's 4 hrs... each duty i get an allowance of 10 bucks and 2 cca points in poly. i got reprimanded by passenger even during my duty... but tat doesnt stop me from working there.
for a promotor usually gets 6 bucks an hour for working... by right i shd get 24 bucks?! but no i dont complain about the money bcuz i haf a sense of duty... i am needed. i did my duty once per week(public holidays included) for 2 yrs... -

we passed the fucking O levels, the hellish A levels which we thought it would never end, the never ending late nights, prayers, the moments that boiled down to the self-belief, conviction. telling yourself that you have faith, those seconds when you entered the A level examination hall, remember?
NS? WHAT NS? we ARE bigger than this regimental organisation, we are BIGGER than the little mind-fucking games those lil' kids play with us.
