Who are they? I thought singapore is a meritocratic country? why discrimination?

They are the sons or close relatives of politically impt ppl like the prime minister or president. Well, it's pretty much common sense why the army would go all out to keep 'white horses' out of potential danger, hence benefiting his platoon on the whole.
So you can expect to have the 'easy life' if you have a white horse in your platoon.

If you ever pay a visit to mindef at depot road, note that some nsfs aren't in uniform. No they're not excused uniform due to pes status.

white horses are horses which are white. or they could mean personnel that have been/are accorded special privileges and good treatment + advancements and promotions due to certain relationships and connections.
hmmz nepotism or corruption seems to fit the description above maybe i got it wrong

There is always a degree of such 'corruption' everywhere. It need not be initiated from people on top.
Say for example. A white horse's superior will never be overly harsh and even provide comforts, simply because he wouldn't want to the risk. This does not imply that whoever's father made special arrangements.
Many things happen without any prior initiations. You will naturally be more pleasantly disposed to people of power. This is in every part of life, not only in military, not only in Singapore. -
how would the specs or officers know whether they're white horses or not?

The specialist and officer in charge of the white horse would have been informed by their superior that so and so's son is coming to the camp.
The poor specialist and officer would spend the next few weeks being PCK in dolling up the camp.
Just ask the specialist and officer in which the dragon's son have hatched.
It is just another indirect of making your superior's superior happy.
Even Prince of England did not ask for any special treatment when he is enlisted.
What the society ended up with a bunch of spoiled brats given special treatment and treating the rest like slackers. (Just look at Miss Mole) -

Just give me the standard treatment. I don't see why white horses should get special treatment, and so I don't see why their platoon mates should get special treatment, either. -
