Depression; Anxiety Issues

Dear all,
I have been reading a lot on these forums on have finally registered an account. I have noticed that this forum is a wonderful channel for me to share my thoughts and issues with all you amazing people out there.
It has been a few weeks since I have been posted to this particular camp and I have been developing signs of depressions/anxiety. Over the weeks, I constantly feel very empty and void inside my heart and I couldn't get to sleep at night. Lots of things race through my mind when I shut my eyes to rest but I just couldn't get to sleep. I feel the need to call home to speak with my mum as and when I have the time and every so often after doing that, I feel extremely emotionally upset and subsequently cried. Often I have this nauseous feeling within me and tears will start welling up in my eyes whenever I think of things at home, at camp, etc. I do not want to interact with anyone within my platoon and I am all the time in an extremely gloomy mood. I am really sick and tired of this and I even ask myself why am I behaving like that. It has already been weeks and there has have been no signs of improvement whatsoever.
I have since relayed all these problems and issues to my mum and the camp MO. I have also consulted a private practice outside (psychatrist) and will be having a consulation with the psychatrist at MMI together with my mum.
I have a few queries that I sincerely hope will be answered.
1) What usually happens when I see the psychatrist at the MMI?
2) Are cases like mine common?
3) What usually happens after the initial visit at MMI?

Hmmm, Im not in medical corp, but cases like yours do happen and its just not reported or widely told to everyone.
I guess, u r doing the right thing in visiting the doctors.

Thank you for your encouragement and reply. This depression thing has been inside me for a month now and I really feel the need to seek help. My mum is very worried for me. I hope I recover soon too.

On a serious note, there is absolutely nothing wrong with such feelings. I supposed you have been mummy's boy for a while, and may not have gone on trips over extended periods of time, without your family.
Well, normally, you will have a buddy in camp. Go and play games and sweat it out and join in the fun. Tire yourself out during the day, so you can have a good sleep at night. Sometimes, a cigarette or 2 may just help.
I travel quite a bit, and on days when there is absolutely to do, I do think about my family. So, I try to keep myself occupied with work, workout, dipping inside the hotel pool, or simply walking around the neighbourhood. -

and what makes you feel the way you are feeling? is it becos of sheer hard training? or ppl ard u? -

2). How common? Hard to say. I've seen and met a number of patients diagnosed with depression when I was doing SAF Psychiatric Ward duty, but I don't have any hard numbers.
3). That will be up to the discretion of the psychiatrist you meet. Depending on how his evaluation of your psychological condition, it can range from anywhere between issuing of medications and light duties to downgrading.
Be sure to tell him that you're seeing a private external psychiatrist as well.
Whatever the case, seeing your MO and getting an appointment at MMI is a step in the right direction. Keep your hopes up; depression is a condition that can be treated.

stress and depression is part and parcel of life,everyone will go through it .
don worry and relax and chill
although i admit sometimes it stressful at times but once u went through it with a positive thinking ,2 years is a breeze -
I also suffered from anxiety disorder before i went into army and got pes E for it.From what i see in my camp,depression and anxiety problems are very common problems as many of them are doing clerk jobs there also.And every week's RO i would see quite a few people needing to go for psychological review.

Sakuragi86: How exactly were you diagnosed with anxiety disorders? What are the exact symptons and how do they evaluate you?

PES E from what I heard once u finish your 2 years NSF, you will be civilian for life.
STUU, I have completed BMT and am in unit now. My condition was mild while I was serving BMT but now it has worsened to a certain degree. -
Physically, I have the feeling that even the slightest bit of things happening can get my heart somewhat pumping very fast and the very 'tight' feeling in my mind. And of course, the thinking a lot part is the pre-dominant part of my problem. How is yours like in detail?

I remember a fren of mine suffered from anxiety disorder n he was sent to medical board cause of wanting to excuse range. To his very surprise, he
given a permanent excuse from range.
